| In 2017,the Ministry of Education officially issued the "Guidance on After-school Services for Primary and Secondary Schools",and since then,after-school extended hours services have been launched nationwide.2021,when the "double reduction" policy was promulgated,it was welcomed by parents and students. However, some problems have also emerged, the most prominent being teachers using the service time to make up classes.After-school extended hours service is a key link in the implementation of the "double reduction" policy, which affects the effectiveness of the work of reducing the burden. Therefore,it is necessary to study after-school extended hours services. When students in the lower grades participate in after-school extended hours services,it is more difficult to supervise them because of their special physical and mental development. However, many schools tend to adopt a "one-size-fits-all" approach and do not separate the lower grades from each other. In this paper,we used three elementary schools in City A as sample schools to investigate the demand, implementation, and evaluation of after-school extended day services for students in the early grades, and analyzed the current situation of after-school extended day services for students in the early grades in detail.Interviews were conducted with educational administrators, teachers, and parents to understand the views of the participants on the after-school extended day services for lower grade students,so as to analyze the development of the after-school extended day services for lower grade students in depth. The current situation was analyzed: demand issues, implementation issues, participation issues, and evaluation of effectiveness are the main problems of the current after-school extended day services for lower grade students. The main reasons for this are: the lack of supervision and financial support from the education administration, the lack of management of after-school extended hours services in schools, and the lack of awareness of parental responsibility. In this paper, three suggestions are made to optimize after-school extended hours services for lower grade students: education administration should strengthen guidance and support, schools should strengthen the management of after-school extended hours services, and parents should take responsibility for collaborative parenting. It is expected to improve the level of afterschool extended hours services for lower grade students and provide reference for other schools to carry out after-school extended hours services. |
