The rapid development of information technology has changed the way people live their lives and society needs complex people who can think across disciplines and solve complex problems.Computational thinking is clearly seen as a key skill necessary for the 21 st century and a fundamental quality that citizens of the information society must possess. As the value and significance of computational thinking has become increasingly evident, many experts and scholars have come to realise that the development of computational thinking in students must begin in basic education and progress to higher education in order to achieve better results. The value of studying the IT curriculum as a means of developing students’ computational thinking cannot be underestimated. For a long time IT teachers have generally focused on getting students to successfully complete classroom tasks, neglecting the value of failure. The study takes a failure perspective and works to build a model for teaching computational thinking from an effective failure perspective.Firstly, this thesis compares the current status of domestic and international research on computational thinking and effective failure through the literature research method.Based on theories of effective failure and theories of thinking and teaching, this thesis defines the concepts of effective failure and computational thinking, and lays a theoretical foundation for designing a model of teaching computational thinking from the perspective of effective failure.Secondly, the study analyses the value of the computational thinking teaching model from the perspective of effective failure.A questionnaire survey was used to investigate the current situation of computational thinking among primary school students, and it was found that the current level of computational thinking of primary school students needs to be improved, and further problems with teaching computational thinking were identified with teacher interviews.Through an in-depth interpretation of the effective failure teaching process and the process of developing computational thinking, the value of the effective failure perspective on teaching computational thinking to primary school students is analysed.Again, the study combines the inspiration behind existing teaching models such as effective failure teaching with the design of teaching objectives, teaching process, learning environment and evaluation, and initially constructs a prototype of a computational thinking teaching models after the effective failure perspective. Finally, the initial model of computational thinking from the perspective of effective failure was applied to teaching practice in three iterations. At the end of each round, problems were identified with classroom observation forms, work analysis forms and student interviews, and the model was revised to address the problems. After the three rounds of teaching practice, the effectiveness of the effective failure perspective on computational thinking was tested through for and post-test questionnaires, analysis of students ’ work and student interviews. The study applies the effective failure teaching theory about the primary school IT curriculum with the goal of developing students’ computational thinking, providing new ideas of the practice of the primary school IT curriculum and proposing a practical teaching model of computational thinking under the effective failure perspective, which not only enriches the research on the cultivation of computational thinking under the effective failure theory, but also provides a reference to the teaching of the primary school IT curriculum.
