Cognitive restrictive eating behavior is a behavior in which individuals limit their food intake and is a direct cause of dieting and eating disorders.Negative body imagery refers to an individual’s negative perceptions of themselves, negative emotions and corresponding behavioral modulation.Previous research has found that negative body imagery is highly correlated with cognitive restrictive eating behaviors, acts as a positive predictor, especially in women, and that interventions with negative body imagery can improve restrictive eating behaviors.Childhood socioeconomic status refers to an individual’s perceived social and economic status as a child.Life history theories on the association between childhood socioeconomic status and restrictive eating behavior from an evolutionary psychological perspective have found that individuals with high childhood socioeconomic status are more likely to engage in restrictive eating behavior when faced with a distribution of food resources. There is also a correlation between childhood socio-economic status and negative body image, with individuals with high childhood socio-economic status showing higher levels of negative body image compared to individuals with low childhood socioeconomic status. Therefore, this study will test the following hypotheses: cognitive restrictive eating behavior and negative body imagery differ by gender, age and childhood socioeconomic status;childhood socioeconomic status, negative body imagery and cognitive restrictive eating behavior are correlated, and negative body imagery mediates the relationship between childhood socioeconomic status and cognitive restrictive eating behavior;and interventions with negative body imagery are effective in The relationship between childhood socioeconomic status, negative body imagery and cognitive restrictive eating behavior was found to be significant. In Study 1,a questionnaire survey was administered to a group of secondary school students, and the hypotheses were tested by ANOVA and mediated effects tests based on the data obtained. The results showed that there were differences in negative body imagery and cognitive restrictive eating behavior among secondary school students in terms of gender, age and childhood socio-economic status, with higher levels of negative body imagery among girls with higher childhood socioeconomic status and at a higher age.The relationship between childhood socioeconomic status, negative body imagery and cognitive restrictive eating behavior was found to be positive, with childhood socioeconomic status positively predicting negative body imagery and cognitive restrictive eating behavior.Based on the results of Study 1,Study 2 selected female students of high childhood socioeconomic status and high age stage as subjects to intervene on their negative body imagery to improve their cognitive restrictive eating behavior.Sixteen homogeneous subjects were selected and randomly divided into two groups, eight each in the control and experimental groups. The experimental group underwent a group counselling intervention for negative body imagery, while the control group did not undergo any intervention. After six sessions of group counselling, the results showed that the cognitive restrictive eating behaviors of the girls in the experimental group were all improved compared to the control group, accomplishing the desired goal and the study hypothesis was valid. In summary,it was concluded that there were differences in the current status of cognitively restrictive eating behavior and negative body imagery among secondary school students by gender, age and childhood socio-economic status.Negative body imagery and cognitively restrictive eating behaviors were more pronounced in the older age groups of girls.Negative body imagery mediated the relationship between cognitive restrictive eating behavior and childhood socioeconomic status in the high school student population.Group counselling interventions to address negative body imagery in female high school students were effective in improving their cognitive restrictive eating behavior.
