| In the age of information technology,the research and application of educational robots have become one of the hot topics.Educational robots can guide children to show social behaviors and develop social skills by virtue of their appearance,interactivity,and operability.Although there have been positive findings in the research of educational robots applied in social development,more research is needed to support it.Social adaptation is one of the main contents of children’s social learning,which has an important impact on children’s physical and mental health and other aspects of development.However,the current social education for young children has the problem of more preaching and less experience in teaching methods.Educational robots provide a new way for social education for young children.In this context,this study takes 28 children in a senior class of a public kindergarten in Shanghai as the research objects,adopts the quasi-experimental research method,and randomly divides the children in a class into the experimental group and the control group.The experimental group and the control group respectively use educational robots and conventional teaching methods to carry out traffic rules and social themed activities for four weeks.The purpose of this study is to explore the impact of educational robots on the social adaptability of children in senior class of kindergarten.The children’s social adaptability in this study includes the cognition of traffic rules and the actual performance of traffic behavior.The researchers evaluated children’s traffic rule cognition and traffic behavior through social information processing interview and real situation tasks.The results show that,compared with conventional teaching methods,educational robots can significantly improve children’s social adaptability,and this effect is still positive after the end of the course.In addition,there are gender differences in the influence of different teaching methods on children’s social adaptability.Specifically,for girls,the influence of educational robots on traffic behavior is better than that of conventional teaching methods.For boys,there is no significant difference between the two teaching methods.Finally,this study makes recommendations for the application of educational robots in early childhood social education and future research. |
