Calligraphy is the quintessence of culture in the historical heritage of the Chinese nation, and is a noble artistic form accumulated through thousands of years of historical transformation. It carries the spiritual lifeline of Chinese children and can also reflect the different aesthetic characteristics of different dynasties and generations.Popularizing calligraphy teaching contributes to the inheritance of history and culture, the establishment of cultural self-confidence,the promotion of quality education, and the formation of students’ core literacy. However, due to the long time of exam-oriented education and the intense pressure of entering a higher school in the past, calligraphy teaching, which has not been taken seriously, has become increasingly marginalized and has not received the attention of students, parents, and teachers.students’ writing ability is not optimistic every day. However,in July 2021,driven by the "double reduction policy" jointly promulgated by the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the state Council, the heavy academic burden and off campus training of primary and secondary school students nationwide were effectively reduced, and the freedom of their spare time was significantly improved. At the same time, the "Guidelines for Calligraphy Teaching in Primary and secondary schools" issued by the Ministry of Education in 2013 and the "Chinese Curriculum standards for Compulsory Education" issued by the Ministry of Education in 2022 both specify the standards and requirements that primary and secondary students should meet in writing skills. Therefore, the author carefully reads the literature research done by predecessors and sorts out its main development context.several dimensions of the primary school calligraphy survey indicator framework were designed, and based on this, student questionnaires and teacher interviews were designed.Infiltrating into the base schools,we learned about 8 representative schools at different levels in different regions of Pudong New Area in shanghai. We interviewed the school leaders and relevant calligraphy teachers, and distributed questionnaires to some fifth grade students.Based on this,we conducted data analysis and investigation. The content of the questionnaire provides in-depth understanding and research on the actual mastery of students’ writing skills, the recognition of calligraphy by school teachers, students, and parents, and the teaching situation in the school. The survey found that there are still many problems in the quality of curriculum offered by various schools. For example, there are four major types of problems: insufficient teaching resources(professional calligraphy teachers, calligraphy classrooms, and professional calligraphy teaching equipment),a single approach to teaching implementation, poor teaching implementation results, and other existing problems. The author carefully ponders over the reasons behind many problems and explains the relevant reasons one by one.At the same time, based on the problems, the author puts forward some shallow suggestions and countermeasures for the efficient implementation of calligraphy teaching in education administrative departments and various primary schools at all levels in the future. For the education administration department, the author suggests that it can increase the establishment of calligraphy majors, strengthen calligraphy supervision, optimize district level calligraphy teaching and research, and refine the calligraphy grade examination. However, for all levels and types of primary schools, the author also puts forward four corresponding suggestions.First, clarify cognitive misunderstandings and correctly view calligraphy teaching in primary schools;secondly, improve the campus environment and fully create a calligraphy campus atmosphere;Third, provide necessary support and fully allocate calligraphy teaching resources;Fourth, optimize classroom teaching, deepen and improve the curriculum evaluation system. The author hopes to bring some changes to the improvement of calligraphy teaching in primary schools through two levels, four sides, and eight dimensions.Actively and efficiently carrying out calligraphy teaching can develop students’ image thinking, cultivate students’ aesthetic ability through multi-dimensional measures, cultivate students’ comprehensive nutrition through multi-dimensional integration of disciplines, and create a beautiful blueprint for the cultivation and development of students’ core literacy through a multi-pronged approach.
