After overcoming absolute poverty, the poverty situation in China has changed significantly, and the focus of poverty alleviation efforts has shifted to addressing relative poverty and long-term poverty eradication.Early childhood development has a profound impact on the formation of human capital, and investing in early childhood development is a core pathway and powerful measure to break the intergenerational transmission of poverty. The relocation project is a great initiative to alleviate poverty in deep poverty areas, and the development of children in resettlement communities is related to the long-term development of the relocation project. As a deep poverty area in the "Three Districts and Three States" and the largest settlement of the Yi ethnic group,Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province was once a challenge in poverty alleviation and is now the focus of rural revitalisation. This study aims to understand the current situation of children’s development in the community and to analyse the family factors affecting children’s development, and to make recommendations on the findings of the study. This study uses the Ages and Stages Questionnaire-Third Edition to assess and analyse the development of the five major functional areas of communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem solving and personal social skills in 232 children from the relocation communities of the Yi ethnic minority in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, and to identify the current developmental status and characteristics of the children. In addition, based on the social-ecological system theory, the family parenting questionnaire was used to understand the main factors affecting children’s development in the family microsystem, such as family socio-economic status, parenting environment and parenting behaviour, and to present the basic situation of family parenting in the Yi ethnic minority relocation communities, and to analyse its relationship with the development of the five functional areas of children, revealing the key factors affecting the development of the sample children.Secondly, family socio-economic status, parenting environment and family parenting behaviour constrain children’s development. The details are as follows:(1)children who are relocated are at serious risk of lagging behind in problem solving, fine motor and personal social functioning areas;(2)there are significant differences in the development of children’s functioning areas between age groups;(3)there are no significant differences in the development of children by gender;(4)family socio-economic status significantly affects the development of children’s communication and personal social functioning areas;(5)family parenting environment significantly affects the development of children’s communication and(6)Family parenting behaviour significantly influences the development of children’s communication,problem-solving and personal social competence areas. In response to the above findings, this study proposes countermeasures to build a good ecology for child development in communities that have been relocated to alleviate poverty and government-led early childhood development screening and intervention programmes.
