With the policy of rural revitalization and the development of new media technology,rural short videos with farming and labor as the underlying logic have rapidly exploded on the Tik Tok platform,and the visual landscape created by rural short videos further contributes to the realization of rural modernization.Therefore,from the perspective of visual communication,the author analyzes the rural short videos under the topic of "New Farmer Project 2022" on the Tik Tok platform in three dimensions: visual elements and symbols,visual narratives and visual rhetoric,and studies the multiple presentations of farmers and rural areas,trying to clarify the question of "what is a rural short video? The question of “what is a rural short video”.This paper is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction,which elaborates on six aspects: research background and significance,definition of the concept of rural short video,research overview,research ideas and methods,research innovation points,and research design,selecting rural visual samples and constructing relevant categories.The second part analyzes rural short videos with visual elements such as composition,scene,color,shot and sound-painting relationship,studies the transformation and connection of rural visual symbols,and explores how rural visual texts create rural imagery through the above hard conditions.The third part focuses on narrative time,narrative content and story subjects,and carries out the analysis of the narrative structure of rural visual texts as a way to reflect the elaborate video rhythm changes,rural content expressions and character image design of rural short videos,which consolidates the foundation for the consensus of rural short video users.The fourth part combines the theoretical achievements of visual rhetoric to analyze the intertextual context,situational context and cultural context shaped by rural short videos,and explores how the context achieves the construction of rural culture identity for short video users while constructing the discourse space of farmers’ groups.In the fifth part,the communication value of visual practices of farmers and rural areas is summarized on the basis of visual symbolic elements,visual narratives and visual rhetoric,and the positive effects of visual empowerment on the presentation of subjectivity,utopia presentation,vernacular cultural identity and rural economic development of farmers and rural areas are explored.
