With the rapid development of China’s economy,the scale of domestic high-networth individuals is expanding extremely in China.The potential demand for private banks is also growing,and the Chinese market bursts with huge market potential.Therefore,many commercial banks have placed the private banking sector at a strategic height and step into the private banking sector,starting with structural reforms from the traditional retail banking model and exploring ways of business transformation.In today’s increasingly competitive business of private banking in China,how to maintain its core competitiveness and increase the market share of private banks is crucial for the development of a commercial bank.Relying on the advantages of advanced management experience and professional global investment,foreign banks once seized the opportunity in the Chinese private banking market.However,with the gradual development of Chinese private banking business,as well as the country’s foreign investment control policies and regulatory environment,private banking business of foreign banks has encountered many challenges in China.This article takes the development of Citibank’s private banking business in China as the research object,focusing on the strategy and specific strategy recommendations for business development.First of all,combining various factors influencing business development,through SWOT analysis,summarize the advantages,disadvantages,opportunities and challenges of Citibank’s business development in China.Based on the comprehensive consideration from the four dimensions,we can constructed the overall strategic for the development of Citi private bank in China.And also,by analyzing the development strategies of HSBC and UBS and other foreign-funded private banking businesses in China,learning from each other’s strengths and weaknesses,it is of great reference for Citigroup to better expand its private banking business.Finally,it elaborate the detailed countermeasures and suggestions from three aspects,the improvement of the development strategy,development model,and development strategy support system.This study found that Citibank’s private banking business have high potential to expand its markets share in China.Citibank can deepen its brand localization and differentiated competition through the implementation of specific strategies.Furthermore,It can further enhance its business competitiveness and expand market share through these strategies,such as improving department structure,increasing talent building,improving customer service system,and optimizing market strategy.
