At present,China’s economic development has entered the stage of development of high quality for a period of time in the present and the future development goals, must vigorously promote the development of high quality, and on the basis of its connotation make effective economic policy and industry development plan, the enterprise as the basic unit of society and economy, the simple pursuit of economic benefits and ignore social benefits era has gone ever since. Therefore,as an important part of China’s financial market, how to achieve highquality development in the new era has become particularly critical for commercial banks.Since the beginning of the 21 st century, large companies from abroad to China have paid close attention to the concept of "corporate social responsibility" without exception.More and more enterprises are undertaking their due social responsibilities and obligations while exploring the concept.Since 2008,China’s relevant regulatory authorities have gradually made special requirements for enterprises to fulfill their social responsibility, and required enterprises to disclose their social responsibility reports through various means.Since then, all walks of life in China’s economic field have gradually accepted the idea that enterprises should fulfill their social responsibilities. The concept of corporate social responsibility in China has been paid more and more attention by the industry and customer groups. At the same time,China’s commercial banks are also actively discovering the social responsibility they should assume as financial intermediaries.Since the birth of commercial banks in China, the discussion on the factors affecting their performance has been in full swing, and the variable of ownership structure has been discussed by the industry. Therefore, how to optimize the ownership structure has become an important topic in the field of corporate governance of commercial banks.Through sorting out relevant literature, this paper finds that ownership structure will affect the effect of corporate social responsibility, and the performance of corporate social responsibility will significantly affect the performance of commercial banks. Therefore, this paper innovatively puts forward whether the fulfillment of social responsibility by commercial banks plays a certain role in the impact of ownership structure on performance. In order to explore the mechanism, this paper introduces the social responsibility of commercial banks as an intermediary variable, conducts an empirical study on 16 joint-stock listed commercial banks in China, and explores the specific role of social responsibility of commercial banks in the impact of ownership structure on the performance of commercial banks.By combing literature and analyzing relevant theories, this paper draws the conclusion that ownership structure will affect the performance of commercial banks through enterprises’ undertaking corresponding social responsibilities, and puts forward relevant hypotheses. In terms of data,16 joint-stock commercial banks listed on Shanghai and Shenzhen A-shares and disclosed their social responsibility reports from 2010 to 2019 were selected as the research objects. In the empirical part, the regression analysis was conducted on the relationship between ownership structure and performance, and then the mediating variable of social responsibility was added to establish the mediating effect test model,so as to prove that social responsibility bearing behavior played a mediating role in the relationship between them.Through empirical test, the conclusions are as follows: the ownership nature of commercial banks is significantly positively correlated with their performance, the ownership concentration degree is significantly positively correlated with their performance, and the ownership balance degree is significantly negatively correlated with their performance; The mediating variable--social responsibility bearing behavior does not play a mediating role in the impact of ownership attribute on the performance of commercial banks, but plays a partial mediating role in the mechanism of the impact of ownership concentration and ownership balance on performance. Finally, according to the results of the paper, relevant countermeasures and suggestions are put forward.
