At present, when the trend of a new round of information technology revolution, the digital economy as the representative of the development of technology has become the new mainstream, the rapid expansion of the scale of the global digital economy, major countries began to focus on the scale of exports to focus on its structural optimization and quality improvement,China is also leading the construction and development of the digital economy through top-level design. With the volatile international political and trade situation, the rise of trade protectionism and unilateralism, the gradual weakening of China’s comparative advantages and the intensification of international competition,in the face of "internal and external problems",improving the technological sophistication of China’s exports is an important part of China’s embedding in the supply chain of the international market, and an important step towards stable, healthy and sustainable development. The digital economy, with its digital information, digital knowledge and interconnected information networks, has changed the technological innovation model and market demand structure, bringing a major opportunity to improve the technological complexity of exports. This paper first compares the research literature related to the digital economy and the technological complexity of exports. In terms of the digital economy,it summarizes the existing concepts and focuses on the mainstream measurement methods and the economic effects they produce, while many factors affecting export technological complexity are identified. Then,we discuss the mechanism of the role of the digital economy in influencing export technological complexity in the context of existing research analysis, and in the theoretical analysis section,we explore how the digital economy affects export technological complexity from two perspectives:human capital and technological innovation.Secondly, this paper uses 248 cities in China as a sample, and uses principal component analysis to construct a comprehensive index system by selecting a total of 16 indicators from four dimensions:information technology readiness, economic development readiness, digital innovation capability and commercialization of digital economy,to evaluate and analyze the development of digital economy in Chinese cities from 2011 to 2020,and draws on the existing studies to measure the technological complexity of exports We also refer to the method of measuring the technological complexity of exports,so as to quantify the technological content and competitiveness of export products and realize the analysis of technological complexity of exports at the city level.By establishing fixed and mediated effect models, the role and influence mechanism of digital economy in the subject of export technological complexity are further verified. Finally, based on the findings of this paper, relevant suggestions are made to promote the development of China’s digital economy and optimize the quality of urban exports. The findings of this paper show that(1)during the period of 2011-2020,the level of China’s digital economy achieves a steady growth and the technical complexity of exports maintains an upward trend.By region, the level of digital economy and export technology complexity in the central and western regions are significantly lower than those in the eastern region, but the momentum of late development in the central and western regions is rapid.(2)The digital economy has a positive impact on improving the technical complexity of exports. The impact of digital economy on export technical complexity in the eastern region is slightly higher than that in the central and western regions, and in the case of the central and western regions, the positive impact of digital economy has not been fully revealed;the impact of digital economy on export technical complexity in the Central Plains City Cluster and the Pearl River Delta City Cluster shows more significant characteristics than that in the Chengdu-Chongqing City Cluster and the Guanzhong Plain City Cluster;the construction of digital economy in cities of high administrative level The impact of digital economy on the complexity of export technology is more significant in cities of high administrative level than in cities of low administrative level, which indicates that cities of high administrative level have higher competitiveness in the construction of digital economy.(3)The impact of digital economy on export technological complexity is mediated by human capital and technological innovation.
