| The construction of urban agglomeration is an important decision made by the state based on solving the problem of coordinated regional development and breaking the barriers of administrative divisions.Urban agglomerations have become the main body of China’s new urbanization and an important link in modernization construction, playing an important role as growth poles in regional economic growth, and the integrated development of urban agglomerations has a profound impact on China’s high-quality economic development. However,in the process of urban agglomeration development, there are still problems of belonging mismatch such as weak physical connection within urban agglomerations and close connection between cities around urban agglomerations and urban agglomerations. In recent years the problem of affiliation within, outside and between urban agglomerations has become the most critical factor affecting and restricting the integrated development of urban agglomerations in China. Therefore, this paper takes 19 urban agglomerations in China as the research object, and constructs the economic spatial association network of urban agglomerations under four years of 2004,2009,2014 and 2019 based on the comprehensive economic quality index system of cities, and analyzes the weighted degree centrality, betweenness centrality and connectivity to explore the network evolution characteristics. The study also investigates the mismatch between the economic spatial association network of communities and the urban agglomerations affiliation in China. This paper draws the following conclusions.Firstly, with the development of economy,China’s urban economic spatial correlation network has formed a correlation pattern of "one main line, five branches and four cores" with the four major urban agglomerations of Yangtze River Delta,Pearl River Delta,Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Chengdu-Chongqing as the core.Secondly,in the analysis of the structural characteristics of the economic spatial association network of Chinese urban agglomerations, the range of high value areas of weighted centrality has been expanding from 2004 to 2014,and the distribution of high value areas is mainly concentrated in the eastern region, and gradually shows a trend of spreading westward. The distribution of median centrality is balanced, with a small number of core cities with very high median values and most cities with low median values within each urban agglomeration.Thirdly, the change in the number of communities under four years in the economicspatial association network of Chinese urban agglomerations shows a trend of first decreasing and then increasing, with a larger volume of communities in the north containing several provinces, and a smaller volume of communities along the southeast coast with significant administrative barriers.Fourthly,in the process of integrated development of urban agglomerations in China, there are mainly three kinds of belonging mismatch: first, cities within urban agglomerations are divided into multiple communities that fail to integrate well with other cities;second, cities outside the planning scope of urban agglomerations are closely related to urban agglomerations but are not included in the scope of urban agglomerations;third, cities located at the junction of multiple urban agglomerations are not included in urban agglomeration planning, which hinders the integrated development between cities.Fifth, several urban agglomerations break through the administrative limits and form the integrated development mode of large community mode.Based on the above findings, this study proposes integrated development of urban agglomerations in terms of breaking administrative boundaries, collaborative urban development, improving transportation infrastructure and environmental governance. The study on the mismatch and integrated development of urban agglomerations and inter-cluster city affiliation based on the perspective of community structure helps to identify strategic development areas in the future from the trend of actual factor flow changes and guide the next regional policies toward refinement, which is beneficial to the high-quality development of urban agglomerations. |
