| The interdependence between the transportation and tourism industries has been widely recognized. The integration of these two industries can promote the improvement of transportation infrastructure, enhance accessibility and carrying capacity, and thereby enhance the attractiveness and competitiveness of tourist destinations.Conversely, the growth of tourism can stimulate demand for transportation services and promote the expansion of the transportation industry. The coordinated development of these two industries is crucial for sustainable economic growth and social welfare, and therefore, the study of the coordination process between them is of practical significance. This paper uses an innovative theoretical framework and applies the coupled symbiotic theory to measure the coordination relationship between the transportation and tourism industries in Gansu Province.Through a econometric model,it evaluates the impact of the transportation industry on the tourism industry and provides data evidence to determine the main influencing factors in the coordination process of the two industries, enhancing the analysis basis of the article. The research process adopts a combined method of qualitative and quantitative analysis.Firstly,a basic qualitative analysis is carried out on the development trend and interaction of the two industries.Secondly, the coordinated development of the transportation and tourism industries in Gansu Province and its 12prefecture-level cities from 2006 to 2020 is analyzed.Based on the coupled symbiotic theory, the coupling coordination degree model and the symbiotic model are used to obtain calculation results, objectively measure the coordination situation, and show the interaction relationship between the two industries in the research area. Finally, based on the relevant conclusions drawn from the previous chapter, using an econometric model, the paper further evaluates the impact of the transportation industry on the tourism industry, analyzes the endogeneity problem between them, selects suitable instrumental variables, uses the instrumental variable method, and tests the heterogeneity and robustness of the model to obtain the regression analysis conclusion, which provides a supplement for the analysis of the coordinated development process of the two industries. The following conclusions are drawn from the analysis:(1)The overall coupling coordination degree of Gansu Province showed a continuous upward trend from 2006 to 2020,and each prefecture-level city also showed a growth trend.Among them,Lanzhou City had the best coordination degree, showing a coordinated trend as early as 2006,while the other cities gradually entered a coordinated state after 2011.(2)From 2006 to 2020,there was a positive asymmetric symbiotic relationship between the transportation and tourism industries in Gansu Province, and overall, the transportation industry had a greater impact on the tourism industry, with significant differences among prefecture-level cities.(3)Using an econometric model to calculate the impact of the transportation industry on the tourism industry in Gansu Province,it was found that a higher comprehensive level of the transportation industry and a higher level of urban infrastructure investment had a significant positive impact on the comprehensive level of the tourism industry. For other relevant control variables, the level of urbanization had a positive impact on the comprehensive level of the tourism industry, while a higher level of urban postal and telecommunications services and urban consumption had a negative impact. The degree of industrial structure rationalization and urban development level had little impact on the comprehensive level of the tourism industry.Based on the qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis results, relevant conclusions are summarized, and some policy suggestions are proposed, mainly in the five aspects of improving transportation infrastructure, strengthening the coordination mechanism between the two industries, constructing smart tourism to improve tourism informatization level, improving transportation service quality to promote the integration of tourism and transportation services, and encouraging the sustainable development of tourism and transportation. |
