The external environment is changing and market competition is intensifying. If an enterprise wants to avoid risks and achieve sustainable development,it is inseparable from the contributions and suggestions of employees.Under such circumstances, how to promote employees’ voice behavior has attracted the attention of entrepreneurs and academic circles. As a core role in the organization, every action of the leader has an impact on the behavior of employees. What behaviors leaders should encourage to promote employees’ voices are issues worth exploring and researching. This study considers this issue from the perspective of trust in the workplace.Employees’ trust in leaders will drive employees to willingly take the risks brought about by voice behavior, have positive expectations for the future, and propose opinions to leader boldly. Therefore, this research will explore the influence mechanism of leader trustworthiness on employee voice behavior in the workplace.Combined with social information processing theory, the paper introduces the fear of the authority as an intermediary variable, and narcissistic personality as a moderating variable.Research shows that employees with low levels of narcissism can be keenly aware of trustworthy behaviors such as high-level work ability, integrity, and concern for employees’ interests displayed by leaders during the work process. Therefore, employees believe that trustworthy leaders will not evaluating oneself maliciously at work alleviates the fear of facing authority. In the Chinese context influenced by Confucian culture, voice behavior is regarded as a challenge to the authority.Driven by the fear of the authority, employees choose to obey authority rather than challenge authority. As for employees with low levels of narcissism, because they are more aware of the trustworthiness of their leaders and lessen the fear and anxiety of the opposite authority, they are more able to boldly express their views and contribute their knowledge to help the organization avoid the existing situation or the problem does not appear. Finally, the paper uses SPSS and AMOS for data analysis.Through the analysis of 184 leader-employee matching data collected,it is found that narcissism mediates the relationship between leader trustworthiness and employees’fear of the authority, that is,when narcissism is low, leader trustworthiness negatively affects employees’ fear of authority;secondly, the existence of fear of authority will weaken employees’ voice behavior;finally, narcissism moderates the indirect effect of leader trustworthiness on employee voice behavior through fear of the authority, for employees with low narcissism, leader trustworthiness positively affects voice behavior by weakening employees’ fear of authority.
