| Global value chain is a production organization method in which multinational companies decompose the production process into different links and disperse these links to different countries and regions for assembly, processing and sales. As the world factory,China mainly participates in the low value-added links of the global value chain, bearing large resource consumption and environmental costs, while facing challenges such as technological blockade and trade friction, making it difficult to make the leap from the low end to the high end.At present,GVCs are facing major changes and challenges and have entered a new stage of urgent reconstruction. In this stage, the global value chain shows the trend of localization, regionalization and diversification. With the in-depth development of globalization, regional value chain has become an important form of international division of labor and cooperation.China-ASEAN regional value chain refers to the manufacturing-led industrial cooperation network built by China and ASEAN countries in East Asia, covering many fields such as electronics, automobiles, textiles and garments, and agricultural products processing.China-ASEAN regional value chain not only helps promote economic growth and structural optimization of both sides, but also helps improve the status and influence of both sides in the global value chain. As the largest developing country and the second largest economy in the world,China occupies advantages in volume, scale, industry, capital and technology in the Asian regional value chain. Therefore,China has the ability and conditions to promote the development of regional value chains in a more inclusive and mutually beneficial direction, and use it to break the unfavorable situation that global value chains have long been dominated and manipulated by developed countries. As China-ASEAN regional cooperation continues to deepen,China-ASEAN has now become each other’s number one trading partner and has established the ChinaASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.Yunnan Province is located at the junction of China and the three ASEAN countries(Vietnam,Myanmar and Laos),and is an important window for the opening up of southwest China and a radiation center for South and Southeast Asia.Yunnan Province is far from developed areas in China, but it has deep ties and close ties with ASEAN countries in terms of history, culture and ethnicity, which has laid a good foundation for economic and trade cooperation between the two sides. At the same time,Yunnan Province and ASEAN countries have great differences and complementarities in terms of industrial structure, resource endowment, market demand, etc.,which provides favorable conditions for the two sides to expand cooperation space and improve the level of cooperation.Based on this, this paper investigates the issue of industrial structure upgrading in Yunnan Province from the perspective of China-ASEAN regional value chain.Firstly, this paper analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of the industries in ASEAN countries by using the improved display comparative advantage index, and analyzes the industrial complementarities between Yunnan and ASEAN countries in the fields of agriculture and tourism, and measures the degree of Yunnan Province’s embedding in the China-ASEAN regional value chain by drawing on the idea of GVC embedding degree measurement. Finally, this paper explores the positive impacts and potential challenges of Yunnan Province’s embedding in China-ASEAN regional value chains on Yunnan Province’s industrial structure upgrading, and proposes policy recommendations with practical value for these impacts and challenges. The results find that Yunnan Province has a long-established cooperation base with ASEAN countries, with strong industrial complementarity, and has more ability to reach high-end industries and participate in high value-added segments in the ChinaASEAN regional value chain. After the empirical test, embedding in China-ASEAN regional value chain has a facilitating effect on the advanced industrial structure and rationalization of industrial structure in Yunnan Province. This indicates that Yunnan Province should make full use of its geographical advantages and resource endowments to actively integrate into the China-ASEAN regional value chain and enhance its competitiveness and influence in the region. |
