In 2020,China’s poverty eradication efforts achieved remarkable results and realized the goal of fully eliminating absolute poverty, since then, the content of China’s poverty alleviation work has changed to alleviate the problem of relative poverty.Relative poverty is multidimensional, dynamic and long-term,which means that the management of this problem requires sustainable and permanent poverty reduction measures from multiple dimensions, including economy, education, health and social capital.Since rural areas are the main site of relative poverty management,it is of great theoretical and practical significance to measure and analyze multidimensional relative poverty in rural areas of China. The nature and manifestation of poverty in the new era have changed dramatically,so the research on this issue should be adjusted accordingly. This paper focuses on the subjective and objective relative poverty, and from the perspective of multidimensional relative poverty,we first construct a multidimensional relative poverty index system in rural areas, which includes nine indicators in five dimensions:income, education, health, living standard and social integration, and adopt the “A-F”double bound method to objectively measure the multidimensional relative poverty of rural households in the 2019 Chinese Social Survey(CSS).The heterogeneity between the subjective and objective measures was analyzed by comparing the objective and subjective measures with the farmers’ subjective identification of their own poverty. Then, the data with the same objective and subjective measurement results were selected, and seven indicators were selected from two levels: household head characteristics and household characteristics, and a logistic regression model was used to study the main factors influencing the multidimensional relative poverty of rural households in China. The study draws the following conclusions: first, the proportion of consistent results of subjective and objective measures is 53.94%,which indicates that the multidimensional relative poverty index system in rural areas constructed in this paper is scientific and reasonable.Second, the living standard dimension and the social integration dimension are deprived to a high degree, and with the critical value k=1/3,more than half of the rural households in China have more than three dimensions of deprivation.Third, the age of the household head, work status, household size, proportion of elderly people and proportion of minor children have significant effects on multidimensional relative deprivation in rural households.Based on the analysis results, relevant suggestions are made to establish a multidimensional relative poverty identification system consistent with China’s rural areas, take appropriate measures to improve the basic quality of life of rural households, upgrade the education level in rural areas, and improve the medical security system.
