| In 2020,China has successfully achieved the great goal of poverty eradication, which means that we have been able to alleviate the problems that hindered the quality development of our rural areas, and in addition, this has become another milestone in the country’s victory over absolute poverty.Along with the development process of poverty in our country,we are currently entering a post-poverty alleviation period, which is mainly characterized by relative poverty.Poverty in rural areas still exists and has become a multi-faceted problem, encompassing issues related to living standards, education, and healthcare, presenting new challenges for poverty alleviation efforts. The coming of the Internet age has led to innovative social and economic advances, and the new poverty alleviation model "Internet+Poverty Alleviation" has become an effective tool for poverty management in China..As the internet continues to develop, its usage has the potential to positively impact rural households in areas such as life, education, healthcare, and help them accumulate social capital, provide more employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. This research is designed to investigate the effect of Internet use on poverty reduction and its mechanism of action on multidimensional comparative poverty in rural China.Using 2018 CFPS data and various analytical methods, including A-F multidimensional poverty identification, comparative analysis, and empirical analysis, the study analyzes China’s internet usage and multi-dimensional relative poverty measures. The association between the use of the Internet and relative multidimensional poverty was then empirically analysed using a binary logit model, with heterogeneity analysis by age, gender and regional samples. Finally, two intermediary variables, social capital and family entrepreneurship, are constructed to study the mechanism of internet usage on rural households’ multi-dimensional relative poverty. The study draws the following conclusions:(1)The largest proportion of rural residents use the Internet for social and recreational purposes, and the eastern region uses the Internet more regularly than other regions.(2)When the multidimensional relative poverty threshold K keeps increasing,The opposite direction of change in the poverty multidimensional indices and the occurrence of a state of absolute poverty in rural China, with the largest falls in the western and north-eastern regions of the country.(3)Residents using the Internet can alleviate the multidimensional relative poverty experienced by the household and will also substantially reduce the likelihood that the household will fall into a position of relative poverty in the future.(4)Rural residents can obtain more resources and entrepreneurial opportunities through internet usage, thereby alleviating the multi-dimensional relative poverty of households. In the impact of internet use on multidimensional relative poverty, social capital and family entrepreneurship play a partial mediating role.On the basis of this research, this study suggests the development of a digital village, accelerating the development of the Internet in rural areas,,providing training for different groups, implementing the "Internet + poverty alleviation" model, improving rural education, healthcare, and employment security measures to enhance internal poverty reduction dynamics. |
