Since the reform and opening up,the development level of China’s manufacturing industry has been constantly improved under the support of national policies, and the industrial scale has been steadily expanded. With abundant labor and cheap labor costs,China’s manufacturing exports in the early years achieved amazing results worldwide mainly by establishing price advantages, and trade activities with developed countries are increasingly frequent. However, with the disappearance of China’s demographic dividend,China’s labor cost advantage has gradually disappeared, and its market share in labor-intensive manufacturing industry has been replaced by some emerging markets such as Southeast Asia and India.Nowadays,China’s manufacturing industry can no longer rely solely on cost advantages to maintain its export competitiveness. Therefore,it is particularly important to think about how to create new competitive advantages for China’s manufacturing industry exports. With the progress of Internet technology,China’s cross-border e-commerce industry has expanded rapidly, becoming a new growth point of China’s export trade. At the same time,China should actively explore how to optimize the foreign trade export structure and improve the export competitiveness of China’s manufacturing industry under the adverse situation of continuous Sino-US trade frictions and epidemic spread. Therefore,"how to seize the new trade mode of cross-border e-commerce,improve the level of China’s manufacturing export trade, cultivate new drivers of foreign trade growth, and thus provide policy basis for promoting China’s cross-border e-commerce development" has become a new topic of foreign trade under the new situation. It is more realistic to study the path and direction of the impact of cross-border e-commerce development level on manufacturing export trade.Through analysis, this paper believes that the development of cross-border e-commerce has an important impact on economies of scale, trade facilitation and trade risks, and then realizes the impact on the export competitiveness of manufacturing industry by affecting transaction costs. The research of this paper mainly includes the following aspects: The first chapter mainly introduces the background and significance of the topic, expounds the overall research content and research methods, and puts forward the possible innovations and shortcomings of this paper. The second chapter combs the relevant domestic and foreign theoretical research, mainly including the research on cross-border e-commerce development, manufacturing export competition and the relationship between the two.The third chapter analyzes the current situation of China’s cross-border e-commerce development and manufacturing development. This chapter is mainly divided into two parts. The first part introduces the development status of China’s cross-border e-commerce,and the second part analyzes the development status of China’s manufacturing industry and calculates the export competitiveness of China’s manufacturing industry in various provinces. The fourth chapter is the analysis of the impact mechanism of cross-border e-commerce development on manufacturing export competitiveness, mainly introducing the theoretical basis and specific impact path. This paper believes that the promotion of cross-border e-commerce development on China’s manufacturing exports is mainly reflected in expanding export scale and promoting trade facilitation.Chapter Ⅴ is an empirical study on the impact of cross-border e-commerce development on China’s manufacturing export competitiveness. This part first refers to relevant literature, selects 12 secondary indicators, based on the panel data of30 provinces in China from 2013 to 2020,constructs the cross-border e-commerce development level index by means of factor analysis and weight reduction, and uses the fixed effect model to study the relationship between the cross-border e-commerce development level and the manufacturing export competitiveness, and finds that the cross-border e-commerce development level has a significant positive effect on the competitiveness of China’s manufacturing industry,Then this paper continues to use the intermediary effect model to test the impact mechanism. The results show that cross-border e-commerce development mainly affects the export competitiveness of manufacturing industry by reducing regional transaction costs.Chapter Ⅵ,based on the results of theoretical analysis and empirical research, and drawing on the experience of other countries in developing cross-border e-commerce,puts forward corresponding policy recommendations to improve China’s cross-border e-commerce development level, optimize the export structure, and improve China’s manufacturing export competitiveness.
