Livelihood vulnerability,as an important research direction of livelihood issues, has received increasing attention from scholars at home and abroad in recent years, and fruitful research results have been achieved. The urbanisation process is accompanied by an increase in the area of land expropriation, and the number of landless peasants is increasing, and the livelihood problem of landless peasants has become a prominent social issue.Due to the lack of clarity in the land expropriation system, inadequate legal provisions and vague land property rights, landless farmers lack perfect protection and fall into livelihood difficulties after losing their land. Therefore,it is of great significance how to guarantee that landless farmers enjoy reasonable compensation for land acquisition, how to guide landless farmers to change their livelihood mode to maintain their living, and how to solve the survival problem of landless farmers. This paper takes landless farmers in Y town of Henan Province as the research object, and constructs an analytical framework of "exposure-sensitivity-adaptability",divides the indicators according to the actual situation of land-expropriated farmers in Y town, defines the concept of each dimension, the meaning of parameters and assigns values to them, and provides a detailed description of the indicators based on the participatory approach to rural livelihoods.Based on the direct observation, questionnaire and in-depth interview data obtained by the participatory rural appraisal method,a livelihood vulnerability evaluation index system for landless farmers was constructed and the values of the livelihood vulnerability index for landless farmers were calculated, and then the internal structure of vulnerability evaluation results and the livelihood dilemma of landless farmers were analysed to propose strategies for adapting to the livelihood vulnerability of landless farmers. The results of the study show that:(1)through the overall measure of livelihood vulnerability of landless farming households in Y town of Henan province, the index measurement, exposure index, sensitivity index and adaptive capacity index are 0.577,0.675 and 0.461 respectively, and the livelihood vulnerability index of landless farming households in Y town is 0.078.According to the definition of the comprehensive livelihood vulnerability index, when the index is positive,it means that the livelihood vulnerability is high According to the definition of livelihood vulnerability index, when the index is positive,it means the livelihood vulnerability is high, and the larger the value, the higher the degree,so there is some livelihood vulnerability of landless farmers in Y town of Henan Province.(2)The main reasons for the vulnerability of the livelihoods of landless farmers in town Y in Henan province are: the early landed farmers did not receive compensation for social security contributions, the social security system for landless farmers is not yet sound enough, the gap between the social security of landless farmers and urban residents is large, the employment training system for landless farmers is not sound, the employment rate is low,the employment treatment is poor, and the lack of new social network construction makes integration into urban life difficult.(3)To this end, this paper proposes strategies to adapt to the above problems: firstly,to improve the construction of the protection system and broaden the scope of the protection system;secondly,to promote the re-employment of dislocated farmers with the joint efforts of many parties,to promote the economic development of the county, and to open up the channels of access to employment information;thirdly,to guide residents to adapt to urban life,to strengthen social identity, and to enhance the ability of dislocated farmers to adapt to urban areas;fourthly,to optimise the supply of public services, and to provide employment services and pension services for dislocated farmers to alleviate their pressure.
