The Study On Sustainable Livelihoods Of Landless Peasants In Urbanization Process Of Shanxi Province

Since the policy implementation of reforming and opening, with China’s process ofindustrialization and urbanization moving forward, more and more agricultural land has beenchanged into no-agricultural land. So the number of landless peasants who are neither farmersnor citizens becomes larger and larger. They face the embarrassment offarming/employment/social security and venture.Based on sustainable livelihoods framework which was put up by the UK internationaldevelopment agencies and related theories, the study combined theory and practice and buildthe sustainable livelihoods conceptual model of landless peasants in Shanxi Province. On thebasis of relevant research findings, the author designed questionnaires to investigatelivelihoods of248citizens in Jincheng and Datong. After that, the author analyzed therelationship between livelihoods capital, strategies, capacities and results. So the study foundthat: unreasonable urban-rural dual structure is the basic system reason for unsustainablelivelihoods of landless peasants in Shanxi Province; the efficiency of the allocation of theportfolio Livelihood assets is the key factor to determine livelihoods of landless peasants; Inparticular livelihoods institutional context, improving feasible capacity of landless peasants isthe key factor to sustainable livelihoods. Finally, the study pointed out solutions to solve theproblem of landless peasants.
