Research On The Impact Of Manufacturing Industry Agglomeration On High-Quality Economic Development

The development of manufacturing industry is the main pillar of the country’s economic development and transformation,and is also the centralized embodiment of a country’s productivity level.In the report of the 20 th National Congress,it was pointed out that we should insist on putting the focus of development on the real economy,promoting the development of new industrialization and accelerating the construction of a strong manufacturing country,which indicates that the industrial status of manufacturing industry will be further enhanced in the future development.However,the development of China’s manufacturing industry is extremely uneven,with the characteristics of high in the east and low in the west.Therefore,it is significant to explore the relationship between manufacturing industry agglomeration and regional economic development to promote the balanced development of China’s manufacturing industry and the high-quality development of regional economy.The research objectives and research methods of this thesis are determined through literature combing and theoretical study,collecting manufacturing data from 2011 to 2020,measuring the manufacturing industry agglomeration degree at provincial level,industry level and sub-industries of each province in China;then establishing evaluation indexes of high quality development from five aspects of innovation,coordination,green,openness and sharing,and measuring the level of economic high quality development by using entropy weight method.By constructing a fixed-effect model,we study the influence of manufacturing industry agglomeration on economic high-quality development and the influence of each manufacturing industry on economic high-quality development.Then,a mediation model is constructed to study the mediation effect of technological innovation in the influence of manufacturing industry agglomeration on economic high-quality development with technological innovation as a mediating variable.Finally,the threshold test is then conducted to investigate whether the impact of manufacturing industry agglomeration on economic high-quality development has a threshold effect.The main conclusions are as follows:(1)The impact of manufacturing industry agglomeration on the economic high-quality development is positively promoted and there is one threshold effect;from the viewpoint of sub-industries,the impact of labor-intensive industries on the economic high-quality development is positive,but there is one threshold effect.The impact of capital-intensive industries and technology-intensive industries on economic high-quality development is positively promoted,and there is no threshold effect.(2)The results of the intermediary effect model show that manufacturing industry agglomeration has a direct promoting effect on the economic high-quality development,and technological innovation plays a partly intermediary role in its promoting process.In addition,technological innovation plays a mediating role in the impact of labor-intensive industrial agglomeration,capital-intensive industrial agglomeration and technology-intensive industrial agglomeration on economic high-quality development,respectively.Based on the theoretical analysis and empirical results,this thesis puts forward the following suggestions:(1)Formulate relevant policies to accelerate the development of manufacturing industry,support and continue to promote the policies that are favorable to the transformation and upgrading of manufacturing industry;regulate and clean up the policies that are unfavorable to the development and transformation of manufacturing industry.(2)Optimize the industrial structure,further improve infrastructure construction,strengthen the construction of the service environment,improve the spatial concentration of capital-intensive industries and technology-intensive industries,and promote the benign development of the regional economy.(3)Encourage technological innovation,increase investment in scientific research and R&D for technological innovation,encourage independent innovation,strive to break through existing technological barriers,and get rid of dependence on key core technologies of other countries.
