The synergistic development of new urbanisation and industrial structure optimisation and industrial development is an important driving force to realise the transformation of social and economic development, and is also an inevitable requirement for the construction of new urbanisation. The promotion of urbanisation provides space for industries to develop and accumulates the production factors required for industrial upgrading, while the long-term development of urbanisation cannot be achieved without the support of industries.Although China’s new urbanisation development and industrial development have made outstanding achievements, the overall low quality of new urbanisation, unbalanced industrial development and unreasonable structure have seriously hindered the high-quality development of China’s cities and industries.Optimising the industrial structure is the main task of building a new system of industrial development, and the optimisation of industrial structure has become a new economic growth point, helping China to get out of the current dilemma of "separation of industry and city" and insufficient momentum of urbanisation development. In this context,it is important to grasp the current situation of new urbanisation and industrial development and the evolution of industrial structure, and to clarify the interactive relationship between new urbanisation and industrial development and analyse the influencing factors, which has important theoretical research value and practical significance. This paper first uses the literature collection method to sort out the literature on new urbanisation and industrial development in recent years and outline the relevant theories. On the basis of the existing research results,an evaluation system of the quality of new urbanisation development and industrial development is constructed, and a comprehensive measurement model is established.Secondly, based on panel data from 2006 to 2020,285 cities above prefectural level across China are selected as research objects to analyse the spatial and temporal evolution trends of new urbanisation and industrial development, while the spatial and temporal evolution patterns of industrial structure optimisation are analysed. Then,a panel vector autoregressive model(VAR)is used to illustrate the interactions between new urbanisation development, industrial development and structural optimisation. Finally, the exploratory spatial analysis tool(ESDA)is used to analyse its spatial correlation, and the spatial Durbin model(SDM)is used to reveal the factors influencing industrial development in the process of new urbanisation development. The following main conclusions were obtained:(1)From 2006 to 2020,China’s new urbanization development quality(UDI)as a whole fluctuated upward, while the industrial development quality(IDI)showed a decreasing trend, and the two were unevenly distributed in space, with both UDI and IDI showing a stepped development pattern of higher in the east and lower in the west. The level of industrial structure rationalisation(ISRt)declined slightly during the study period, with the rationalisation level of the eastern region being better than that of the central and western regions;the level of advanced industrial structure(ISAt)showed an upward trend during the study period, and although the basic pattern of high in the east and low in the west did not change fundamentally in terms of spatial distribution, the new high value areas during the study period were mainly concentrated on both sides of the Heihe-Tengchong Line, showing a dynamic shift from east to west. The spatial distribution of high values in the study period did not change fundamentally.(2)The improvement of the development quality of new urbanization can significantly promote the improvement of the quality of industrial development and the advanced level of industrial structure, and there is a unidirectional relationship between the two variables;while the rationalization level of industrial structure can promote the optimization of industrial structure by promoting the improvement of the development quality of new urbanization, and there is a benign relationship between the two variables to promote each other.(3)The role of various factors in the new urbanization process has different paths for industrial development in different regions, and has different direct and spatial spillover effects on each region. The increase in the level of scientific and technological progress has positive direct and spatial spillover effects on the industrial development of the whole country and the eastern region;the increase in the amount of fixed asset investment in the central region has positive direct and spatial spillover effects on the industrial development of the region, while the increase in the rate of scientific and technological progress and land urbanization has positive and negative spatial spillover effects on the quality of industrial development. The increase of fixed asset investment in the central region has a positive direct and spatial spillover effect on the industrial development of the region, while the increase of scientific and technological progress and land urbanization rate has a positive and negative spatial spillover effect on the improvement of industrial development quality, respectively. This indicates that different regions have different factors affecting the quality improvement of their industrial development.Based on the above conclusions, the following suggestions are made for the future integrated development of "industry-city" :(1)Strengthen the flow of factors between cities, and promote the integrated development of regional industries by "borrowing from the east to the west" to make up for the shortcomings.(2)The industrial park as an important combination of industrial and urban integration development, with various industrial parks as a carrier,to guide the development of industrial clustering, driving the concentration of population around should improve the introduction of talent policy, build a talent exchange platform.(3)to enhance independent innovation capacity as a breakthrough to achieve the industrial value chain climbing.
