Producer Services Agglomeration And Regional Technological Diversification

Since the reform and opening up,the quantity of innovation in China has achieved rapid improvement,but the problems of low quality and perseverance of innovation have become increasingly prominent,which have gradually become obstacles to China’s further development.Evolutionary economics theory has fully proved that technological diversification is an important way to improve innovation resilience,among which unrelated technological diversification is the key to improve the quality of regional innovation.Based on the theory of evolutionary economics and aiming at improving the quality and resilience of regional innovation,this paper studies whether producer service aggregation can promote regional technological diversification from the perspective of correlation.According to the existing literature,there are two ways to achieve technological diversification: expanding the contact surface of external knowledge and integrating and absorbing external knowledge.In the analysis of the current situation,this paper finds that China-US trade frictions and WTO entry significantly affect China’s innovation development level,which proves that China has an obvious late-comer advantage but is not strong in innovation perseverance.Promoting regional technological diversification to enhance innovation resilience is the key to current economic development.Further,according to the geographical location,China is divided into eastern,central and western regions,and it is found that the trend of technological diversification in China has obvious regional diffusion and evolution characteristics.By studying the development status of producer services,it can be seen that producer services have an obvious trend of agglomeration,and the development speed of high-end producer services is faster than that of low-end producer services.Through mechanism analysis,it is concluded that producer service aggregation mainly promotes regional technological diversification and unrelated technological diversification by expanding regional knowledge contact surface.It is further assumed that producer service can expand knowledge contact surface,so the promotion effect of producer service is regulated by regional knowledge absorption capacity and market size.Based on the theoretical mechanism,this paper uses the data of prefecture-level cities in China from 2003 to 2019 to make an empirical study.(2)Producer services can promote regional unrelated technological diversification.(3)Producer services can promote the balanced development of the two types of technological diversification in the region.(4)High-end producer services can better promote technological diversification and unrelated technological diversification.(5)Regional human capital level and population density positively regulate the promotion effect of producer services in regional technological diversification and unrelated technological diversification.
