The servitization of manufacturing input is closely related to the transformation and upgrading of enterprises and the acquisition of competitive advantages, and the new production and operation model of "product + service" has an important impact on all value-added links of the value chain such as procurement,R&D,production and sales.Since the reform and opening up,China has achieved rapid development of the manufacturing industry by relying on the demographic dividend and resource advantages, but the manufacturing industry is generally large but not strong, and the core competitiveness of enterprises is still a basic fact. Therefore,it is necessary to construct an analytical framework of input servitization and enterprise competitiveness from the micro perspective of enterprises, explore the impact of input servitization on the competitiveness of Chinese manufacturing enterprises, and seek a feasible path for enterprises to improve their competitiveness through intermediate investment in services. In view of this,on the basis of literature combing, this paper systematically analyzes how the servitization of manufacturing inputs affects the competitiveness of enterprises, and uses the China Industrial Enterprise Database and the World Input-Output Database(WIOD)to construct a balance panel data at the enterprise level from 2005 to 2014,uses a two-way fixed-effect model to empirically analyze the impact of servitization of manufacturing inputs on the competitiveness of enterprises, and verifies the impact of this influence in distinguishing different service element sources.Whether there are differences in different technology-intensive enterprises and regions and the possible transmission paths of this impact. The results of this paper show that:First, the level of servitization of China’s manufacturing industry fluctuates and rises, among which the level of servitization of input in the manufacturing industry with high technology intensity is higher, and the level of servitization of intermediate input with higher degree of specialization is higher. The competitiveness level of China’s manufacturing enterprises is relatively stable, and the competitiveness of technologybased enterprises is relatively high.Second, the servitization of manufacturing input helps to improve the competitiveness of enterprises, among which, the promotion effect on the central and eastern regions and technology-based enterprises is more significant, which is still true after considering the possible extreme values, index measurement errors and endogenous problems; From the perspective of the input source of service elements, the investment in warehousing and transportation services, information and communication services, financial and insurance services, and professional and technical services can significantly enhance the competitiveness of enterprises.Third, manufacturing input servitization can obtain competitive advantages by reducing enterprise costs and improving the level of enterprise technological innovation, thereby improving enterprise competitiveness, and cost effect and technological innovation effect may be the transmission path of input servitization affecting enterprise competitiveness. Finally, based on the research conclusions, this paper draws enlightenment: the government should accelerate the process of investment and servitization of manufacturing enterprises and medium-technology-intensive manufacturing enterprises in the central and eastern regions;Actively promote the deep integration of manufacturing and service industries, and expand the openness of service fields such as finance and insurance, warehousing and transportation, and information and communication;Enterprises should reduce costs and improve the level of technological innovation.
