| Building an advanced manufacturing industry is an important support for China’s high-quality economic development and a key factor in promoting the continuous improvement of China’s comprehensive national strength. In the context of global value chain division of labor, the status of the value chain is an important indicator of a country’s manufacturing development level.Improving the status of the manufacturing industry in the global value chain is a top priority for China’s construction of a manufacturing powerhouse.Among the many factors that affect the global value chain position of the manufacturing industry, digital trade has increasingly attracted widespread attention. As the core of digital trade, digital service trade has become a new direction for trade development and an important factor driving the rise of global value chain division of labor. In this context, exploring the effects of digital service imports on the upgrading of China’s manufacturing global value chain has important theoretical and practical significance. The full text is divided into five chapters, with the first chapter being the "Introduction".It outlines the research background and significance of this thesis, review relevant literature at home and abroad, and propose research methods and innovative points for this thesis.Chapter 2establishes a theoretical analysis framework for the entire text, summarizes the theories related to digital service trade and the global value chain of manufacturing, analyzes the impact mechanism of digital service imports on the global value chain status of manufacturing, and proposes relevant hypotheses.Chapter 3 presents the current status of China’s digital service imports and the global value chain position of the manufacturing industry. It summarizes the current situation of China’s digital service imports and uses the value-added trade accounting method to calculate the global value chain position of China’s manufacturing industry.Chapter4 is empirical research.Based on the panel data of 40 countries from 2007 to 2021,this thesis uses the fixed effect model and the dynamic system GMM model to empirically test the relationship between digital service imports and a country’s manufacturing global value chain position, and further analyzes the heterogeneity by country and sector.Based on the analysis and summary of the first four chapters, the final chapter of the thesis proposes corresponding policy recommendations on how to better utilize digital service imports to improve the global value chain position of China’s manufacturing industry. The results of empirical regression show that the import of digital services has a positive promoting effect on the upgrading of the global value chain in the manufacturing industry, and this positive promoting effect exhibits heterogeneity in the import of digital services in economies with different levels of development and different sectors. In response, this thesis proposes that China’s digital service imports should be further developed, including expanding the openness level of the digital service industry, adjusting and optimizing the structure of digital service imports. In particular, the focus of digital service imports should be on the intellectual property service sector, telecommunications, information and computer service sectors, financial service sectors, and other commercial service sectors,in order to help China’s manufacturing industry climb towards the high-end of the global value chain. |
