The city scale expands unceasingly with urbanization pushing forward. Land resources, water, energy and ecological environment demand is increasing with higher population density. In recent years, urban geological disasters such as sand liquefaction, collapse, landslide, debris flow, ground fissures and ground subsidence have occurred. Groundwater, land resources and ecological environment is damaged. The country and the people’s life and property is by varying degrees of loss. In this situation, carrying out the urban geological work, and finding out land resources, ground water, energy, urban construction safety concerns and the problem of ecological environment is very important. Only geological work play a fundamental role, it will be useful for the urban disaster prevention and mitigation, and provide powerful geological guarantee sustainable development. Based on the importance and urgency of the urban geological work, the paper choosed urban geological research as a topic. The planning new town of Beijing Pinggu district located in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei three provinces at the junction, being the coordinated development of beijing-tianjin-hebei outpost, is the important organization part of the development of Beijing city, so the paper select it as the researching city.At recent, urban geological research at home and abroad have different degree, so there is no a set of complete urban geological research method that can be used directly. To get better urban geological research, the paper uses a combination of Pinggu demand planning new town development mode of urban geological research. It is called researching system in the paper.The paper researching purpose is to serve new scientific planning and sustainable development. Researching system is based on the demand of Pinggu planning and the sustainable development and analyzes the geological problems related to the new town development. The selection of content is regional geological structure, groundwater resources, soil environmental quality, shallow geothermal energy and engineering geological conditions of the five aspects, and the direct impact on town planning and construction is focused on site selection of engineering geological conditions. Research methods is guided as advanced geological theory. The paper leverages existing remote sensing, geological survey, geophysical exploration, geochemical exploration, drilling, monitoring, laboratory test and in-situ test and other data sources and uses advanced GIS technology to processing of the raw data again, a comprehensive study preparation of maps to solve various geological problems. The main results are as follows:(1) Comprehensive analysis of the regional geological structure. The paper identifies the structure distribution characteristics of the study area. Nine breaks was delineated and the location of the two active faults Xiadian-Mafang fracture and Donggao village fracture was determined. The causes of Pinggu rift basin were discussed in the paper.(2) The distribution characteristics of groundwater being summarized. The groundwater was classified into Quaternary loose layer of water and bedrock fissure karst. The aqueous-rich groundwater study area was partitioned. The paper circles the highly water area, medium water rich area, weak water-rich region and the uneven distribution of a water-rich area and studies on the water level variation during the year and annual dynamic characteristics and sums up the changes of groundwater level.(3) The distribution characteristics of soil elements being analyzed, especially heavy metals distribution. The paper evaluated the soil environmental quality in the study area and distributed circle of soil environmental quality of an area in the study area and two quality areas.(4) Factors influencing the development and utilization of shallow geothermal energy being studied and the groundwater source heat pump system and ground source heat pump systems suitable distribution area and unsuitable area being circled.It calculated suitable for the development of areas of reserves and resources recoverable amount.(5) The new town planning area of engineering geological conditions, geological hazard, site stability and construction suitability evaluation being partitioned and the distribution of each partition being delineated. The paper combined town planning evaluation coordination between different functional areas and construction suitability between.
