Research On The Phonology Of Gaochun Dialect

The situation of dialects in Gaochun county which is located in Nanjing,Jiangsu Province is very complex and the research on it has very high value.The former research on the dialects of Gaochun are mostly focused on the description of the phonology of Chunxi' dialect and lacked thorough and systematic research on dialects of other parts of Gaochun.In this thesis,relying on the previous and recent field works of ours,we will describe the pronunciation of Gaochun dialect,discuss the phonetic change and variation of Gaochun dialect.Then make the comparative analysis of phonology of 11 places in Gouchun,clarify the historical strata and do our best to explain the phonological evolution.The thesis includes seven chapters.The first chapter is the introduction.We introduce research background,aims,methodology and the paper sourse materials and other relative issues.Chapter 2 is on the topic of the phonologic system of Gaochun dialect and the main phonetic features in detail.We also made the sonogram of initials,finals and tones.Chapter 3 is to discuss the phonetic change and variation of Gaouchun dialect including continuous tone sandhi in the two-word groups,neutral tone,literary and colloquial readings,phonetic change and variation of different ages.And a trend of devocalization in sonant can also be found in groups of different ages.Chapter 4 is to make thorough comparative analysis of phonology of 11 places in Gaochunm,clarify the different historical strata and explain the phonological evolution.Firstly we discuss the pronunciation of ancient fully voiced initials and their geographic distribution,describing the process of devoicing and the evolution of the values.Then we discuss the pronunciation and geographic distribution of voiceless onsets,sonorants and approximants in Gaochun dialect.Secondly we describe the different pronunciation of Guo?,Jia?,Yu?,Xie?,Zhi?,Xiao?,You ? groups in different places of Gaochun,emphatically expounding the evolution of the rhyme You&Hou ??Phonological difference and evolution of Xian?Shan ?,Shen ?,Zhen ?,Zeng ?,Geng ?,Dang?,Jiang?,Tong?groups are also be discussed in details.Lastly,we pay a attention to the tonal evolution in Gaochun dialect,listing the examples of the tonal development.Chapter 5 is devoted to the criteria of dialect divisions in Gaochun.We summarized 19 criteria in dividing different parts of dialect in Gaochun and concluded the common features of all Gaochun dialects.Chapter 6 is the comparison table of pronunciation of dialects in 11 places in Gaochun.Chapter 7 is the conclusion of this thesis.One the basis of the previous discussion,we have the summary,meanwhile,we pointed out the deficiency and research prospects.
