The Spread And Development Of Chengjiang Acupunc-Ture School In Europe

The Chengjiang School of Acupuncture and Moxibustion was initiated by the famous TCM physician,acupuncture educator,and the first president of Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine under the social background of the conflict,communication and exchange of Chinese and Western medicine since the 1930s.The southern region Jiangsu Province is the centre,radiating the Chinese medicine schools throughout the country and even Europe and the United States.The Chengjiang School of Acupuncture and Moxibustion is the cornerstone of modern acupuncture and moxibustion discipline system,acupuncture higher education system and modern acupuncture and moxibustion scientific research system in China.The formation and development process of the Chengjiang School of Acupuncture and Moxibustion more comprehensively reflects the history of Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion academy from renaissance to glory in the past century.Based on a review of the development of acupuncture and moxibustion in Europe,this study focuses on the spread and development of the Chengjiang School of Acupuncture and Moxibustion in Europe from the perspective of encoding-decoding in cross-culture communication.In this study,the method of literature review,case study,multiple discourse analysis and field investigation were combined.While consulting the development of history of acupuncture and moxibustion in Europe,field investigation and interview were adopted for the disciples of Chengjiang School of Acupuncture and Moxibustion in Europe to explore their inheritance and their development in Europe.The results of this study show that the inheritors of Chengjiang School of acupuncture and moxibustion in Europe realized the inheritance of Chengjiang School of acupuncture and moxibustion through such ways as apprentice,international acupuncture and moxibustion education and acupuncture postgraduate education.Chengjiang School of acupuncture and moxibustion spreads and develops in Europe mainly driven by its inheritors.They spread acupuncture and moxibustion through lectures given at European traditional Chinese medicine colleges and universities,Chinese medical professional associations,organizing large international academic conferences and writing books to advance their theory.In the process of acupuncture spreading to western countries,the encoding and decoding of traditional Chinese medicine theory,including acupuncture,directly decided the spread and development of acupuncture in western countries.Chengjiang School of Acupuncture and moxibustion has been committed to‘the negotiated coding’of ancient acupuncture and moxibustion and modern medicine foundation since its founder Cheng Dan-an,laying a foundation for the modernization of acupuncture and moxibustion.The inheritors of Chengjiang School of acupuncture and moxibustion in Europe also inherited the academic ideas and clinical experience of their predecessors,and coordinated the basic theory of acupuncture and moxibustion with the basic theory of modern medicine,opening up a new path for the communication between Chinese and Western medicine,and promoting the development of Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion in Europe.The inheritance and development of Chengjiang School of Acupuncture and moxibustion in Europe can be divided into three periods.The dissemination and development of Chengjiang School of acupuncture and moxibustion in Europe after the 1980s is a process of dissemination and development driven by the school’s inheritors and based on the European acupuncture and moxibustion education and Chinese medicine professional association.
