Land Use and Land Cover Change (LUCC) not only play an important role in global environmental change and sustainable development, but also has become the frontier and the focus of researches on global change. In the world, by promoting abundant scientific researches, we have made a great progress in its theoretical methods and technologies, such as LUCC information acquiring and processing, LUCC dynamic changing, study on LUCC driving system, etc. The change of China's LUCC is an important component part of global environmental change. Therefore, it will be of crucial important to make the deeper researches on China's LUCC. With the research on methodology of LUCC and research area, exploring a LUCC methodology to county level area in mountainous and plateau region. The methodology will help other research on the same or similar region.Shangri-la County is a collecting area of multi-nationality culture, and a famous place of interest in the world. It has the landforms which pass through from the south to the north and juxtapose the east and the west. It also has diverse types of LUCC. Vertically, the landscapes are obviously different. Its natural ecosystem is comparatively complete. It has diverse creatures. However, its ecological environment is weak. It is urgent to monitor land use quickly, objectively and precisely to socioeconomic sustainable development of Shangri-la county and grip its dynamic. Therefore, this research is carried out to find out the land use monitoring techniques suitable for this region, so as to provide technical support for land use scientific management. The content of this research is as follows:The first part is Preface. This part indicates the importance of promoting the researches on Land Use and Land Cover Change. The second part discusses the principles and characteristics of LUCC remote sensingclassification at present. Besides the traditional observation interpretation, monitoring classification and non-monitoring classification, it mainly introduces the new methods of remote sensing classification, including Sub-Region Classification Method, Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) method, Fuzzy Mathematic method, Classification Method of Remote Sensing Image on Basis of Knowledge, Classification Supported by GIS, and Classification Based on Fusion of Multi-source RS Data. The third part discusses the methods of LUCC change Information Extraction. Generally, they are four methods: Statistical Method, Method of Spectrum Direct Comparison, Comparative Classification Method and Mixed Method. The fourth part discusses the analysis models of LUCC change information. They are mainly Landscape Ecology model and Dynamic Changing model of Land Use.The fifth part employs the research methods of LUCC to make LUCC classification of the remote sensing image of Shangri-la County of 1989 and 1999 and employs Landscape Ecology model to analyze the LUCC changed states of Shangri-la from 1989 to 1999.The sixth part is the conclusion. It concludes the features and shortcomings of this study, and points out what should be improved in the future.Supported by RS and GIS techniques, this study puts forward some LUCC classification methods that are suitable for Shangri-la County, and employs Landscape Ecology model to analyze the LUCC changed states of Shangri-la from 1989 to 1999. It offers bases of policy decision for local administrative departments at all levels, and owns important meaning for the healthy development of ecological environment.
