With the wireless network communication technology, mobile positioning technology and embedded system appearing and going to maturity,the mobile geographic information system(GIS) based on location server has been rapidly developed.How to provide GIS server in the mobile circumstances become one of the hotspot problems in GIS and one of the mainstream technology for the public.The mobile characteristic of mobile intelligent terminal provides well support for the developing of mobile GIS.Mobile GIS takes mobile intelligent terminal as carrier of information and integrates the embedded GIS technology, mobile positioning technology and the wireless network communication technology, therefore,people not only can anywhere, anytime to gather and update GIS data, but also can anywhere, anytime access GIS service.First of all,the paper reviews the history and status in quo of mobile GIS,and open out the wide foreground of mobile GIS application,then discusses the key technology of mobile GIS, such as embedded GIS technology, mobile compute technology, embedded mobile database,wireless network communication technology and spatial positioning technology.This essay is concerned with main characteristic and relevant technology of mobile GIS in theory and probes into the systematic component and applied models of mobile GIS. On this basis taking mobile intelligent patrolling and checking system as the example of mobile GIS, carrying on research and design to it. It is expected to fulfill data collection in field, positioning and navigation.Besides the traditional functions,such as spatial informationdisplay,query,analysis, the system has the functions of real-time positioning and navigation by the GPS Technology and collecting the spatial data of circuitry.This paper presents on especial discussion in the logic structure mode of system, receiving and analyzing GIS signal under PDA platform, communication technology between PDA and PC server, the application of embedded database system (SQL server CE).At last, under the .NET circumstances,the author develop and verify the system by using ArcPAD.
