In the computer numerical control (CNC),the automation of machining operation centers on parts' programs. The CNC unit depends on program to control the machines' position and speed. But the actual process of machining operation is complex,the precision and efficiency is not only related by servo systems precision and speed but also related by the condition of machining operations. If the operator is experiential,these factors can be overcome. The machines cannot run on more efficient condition or cannot work if the factory has a lot of machines without adaptive controllers. It is necessary that the machines equip a monitoring device.On the base of digesting the OPTIMIL's technology of OMAT Company in Israel,The paper summarizes the developments on CNC adaptive control in China and in other countries. By analyzing and modeling machine tool,the paper developes a control scheme and a control algorithm which is used on CNC milling machines for machining operations. It is shown that the algorithm presents a good dynamic performance and robust compare to PID algorithm which is used a great deal in industries by computer simulation. At the same time the paper provides an electric drawing and a control flow diagram which can be used in CNC milling machines for accomplishing a constant power control and cutting tool's monitoring and protection .By this way,it can reduce the cost and enhance efficiency during the machining operations.
