Virtual Axes Machine Tools (VAMT), which based on Stewart platform, are widely believed to possess a number of advantages over their serial counterparts, just like high stiffness, low inertia and suited for high speed machining although at a cost in reduced workspace. More and more machine tool manufactures have paid attention in this trend around the world. Using the modern design methods-Virtual Prototyping Technology (VP) can avoid building the physical prototype, so its application in VAMT can reduce the development cost and improve the performance of VAMT.This dissertation addressed the question of kinematics and dynamics and workspace analysis of trisupport layered 6-UPS VAMT through Multi-rigid-body simulation software ADAMS. The developing history, status and researching directions about VAMT are summarized. Multi-body-dynamics theory about ADAMS software is discussed in detail, which may be helpful to somebody interesting in developing our VP software owned knowledge patent.Using the closed-loop equations approach we built kinematic analysis model. And throught the Newton-Euler approach we built dynamic analysis mathematic model. The dynamic model featured in concluding gravity of legs and joints, not regarding driving legs as two-force legs and equivalence of spherical joints by rotation joints forms.Proposed four parameters controlling changes of machine tool structure and built its parameterized VP model in ADAMS. Under the giving trochoid of machine tool the kinamatic and dynamic performance are analyzed by the study evaluation utilities of ADAMS. The resulted analysis curves can be helpful in synthetizing VAMT.Putted forward a new approach in analyzing VAMT position workspace by using of VP model in ADAMS and described a concrete position workspace of a special trisupport layered 6-UPS VAMT in MATLAB.According to methods above, a VP technology based on ADAMS is applied to VAMT. In the same time some ideas adopted in this dissertation and some analysis results are useful for reference.
