This thesis presents the development of a PSTN-based remote Diagnosis Inspect System for the Can-body Resistance Welding Machine (CRWM). In this system, the control center was connect with the remote CRWM by Modems and phone cable through which it can remote control and diagnosis the NC device located in other place. The hardware designing, remote communication designing and system software designing are mainly introduced in this paper. The modular design methodology was applied in the development of the system software that can be divided into five modules: main control management module which controls the interaction with users and the calling of other function modules, the remote communication module which performs he communication of the monitoring center and the remote CRWM, database management module which performs the saving and management of the status data and the typical cases of the machines, data processing module which processes the data collected both from the monitoring center and the machines, help and print module which offers online helps for the control and printing. As the basis of the whole system, the realization method and some key techniques of remote communication were mainly proposed in this paper. The system has been proved to be effective and has realized the expected functions. With the development of the internet technology, the application of Internet has gained more and more attention in the industrial area. As an explorative research, an internet based monitoring scheme of the CRWM was proposed in the end, which has realized the basis remote communication functions and provided the direction of the future studies.
