Tray column is a type of important gas-liquid contact equipment in the chemicalindustry, in the recent years, the novel tray appears frequently. This paper introducedtwo floating valve trays. One was novel rectangular flow-directed floating valve tray,the other was arrow-like floating valve tray. Hydrodynamic behaviors of novelrectangular flow-directed floating valve tray and arrow-like floating valve tray wereexperimentally studied with air-water system in a 1200mm diameter column andcompared with traditional F1 type tray. The experimental results showed that thehydrodynamics of the new floating valve tray were better than that of F1 tray. At thesame operation conditions, the pressure drop of novel rectangular flow-directedfloating valve tray was decreased about 20%, entrainment rate was about 10% lowerthan F1 tray, while the weeping rate was slightly higher. The pressure drop ofarrow-like floating was about 50pa lower than F1 tray, both entrainment rate andweeping rate were less than F1 tray.
