Tray column is very important gas-liquid contact equipment in lots of fields suchas petroleum, chemical industry, environment protection, pharmacy and so on, in therecent years, the new trays appear frequently, they have various kinds of structures andexcellent performance, but they have different properties and various applications, theylack the mutual comparison of valid data and tend to make the choice of those whoknow what to do. In order to observe the rationality of structures and the availability ofthe trays in the industrial process, this paper chose two excellent performance floatingvalve trays: one was GXD duplex diversion valve tray, the other was serrated sidevalve tray. Research on hydraulic performace of new valve trays was carried out withload capability diagram of tray in the paper.Firstly, the design and calculation process of tray column were studied, the designof tray column included column diameter calculation, overflow area design, openingarea design, checking fluid mechanics and drawing load capablity diagram. Then thecalculation methods and models about the tray hydraulics key performanceindicators-dry tray pressure drop, wet tray pressure drop, entrainment, weeping wereinvestigated. Finally, the experimental data in the literature was fitted to get theregression equation by using the least square method. And they were compared withexperimental data and the empirical correlation of more reliable tray pressure drop,entrainment, weeping was obtained. They ensured the correctness of the GXD duplexdiversion valve tray and the serrated side valve tray hydraulics model. The hydraulicsmodels of more than fifty kinds of trays were studied and summarized. The trayhydraulics software was developed independently.F1valve tray, GXD duplex diversion valve tray and serrated side valve traydesign were used for naphtha hydrotreating unit. Structural parameters, hydraulicscalculations, load capability diagram of tray design were obtained, and the results of design were compared. By the load capability diagram of GXD duplex diversion valvetray and serrated side valve tray compared with F1valve tray, compared with F1valvetray, entrainment and weeping were smaller, operation flexibility was also improved tosome extent, but the tray was not particularly significant to reduce the tray pressure.Through these studies we found that: the hydraulics properties of new valve trays hadimproved to some extent than conventional valve trays. The research of the trayhydraulics calculation provides some guidance for the new tray application in industry.
