Study On The Horizontal Micro-EDM System And Experimental Process

Micro-EDM is a key branch of the EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) in the micro-manufacture field. As there is practically no cutting force, it will have good market in military and civil industry.Aim to the problem of today's EDM machine and the characteristics of Micro-EDM, a new machine was developed including the numerical control system and RC pulse generator. Some experiments were done on the machine. Followingwere main research work:1.On the basis of the analysis of current situation and characteristics of Micro- EDM, the forthcoming research directions were given.2.Considering the problem of today's EDM machine and the characteristics of Micro-EDM, a machine was developed by a new design idea. And the NC system was developed which based on the Programmable Logic Controller. PC could monitor the PLC and exchange the data.3.On the basis of the analysis of micro machine mechanism, a RC pulse generator was developed which attached the deionization function and short circuit protection. The pulse generator's machine power could be controlled.4.First experiment was done in three different dielectric (deioned water,air and deioned water spray). By the comparison of three results, some mechanisms were presented. To improve the precision and stability, a method of Shock Wave Aided EDM was presented. The experiment show that by taking the Shock Wave to the gap to exclude the erosion, the precision and stability could be improved effectively. Third experiment was a new reversible EDM technology. And a micro steel cylinder was made whose diameter was 50μm and height was 30μm.
