As roof bolting technology has many advantages, such as high speed, low cost, safety etc., it has been widely used in tunnel support. Especially in the field of coal mining, roof bolting technology has been considered as one of the most important technology for improving the efficiency. Roof bolter is the key equipment for roof bolting. With more and more roof bolters are used in the coal mines, so the quality control and maintain require a test system. The existing test bench only have few sensors and with limited functions.According to the National Stands MT/T688-1997 and GB5621-85, this paper developed a roof bolter testing system based on virtual Instrument. The system is developed by LabVIEW 8.0 with using local data sampling card PCI7483 and PC audio card. The system can test the all required specifications, such as compressed air flow rate, pressure, temperature, motor torque, motor rotation speed, cylinder thrust and noise of motor.Meanwhile, this paper also studied the precise test method of the compressed air flow rate. The compressed air flow rate tested with both temperature and pressure compensation, much improved the precision of the evaluation to an air motor.Frequency spectrum analysis of motor noise can be an important way to judge a motor's characteristics. The test system developed has a function to test the noise and spectrum analysis, which provides a good foundation for roof bolter trouble shooting.The experimental study for the roof bolter shows that, this test system meets the engineering requirements, and the cost of the system is very low compared to it's functions, the development is successful.
