With the development of the cement industry in China, large scale, high efficiency and low energy consumption have gradually become the main development trend of cement industry and it is helpful to develop the new dry process technology. The clinker grate cooler is one of the critical equipments for the new dry process and its research and development have progressed continuously. To get better cooling effect, the third generation grate cooler is widely applied in the newly-built cement production line, and specially used to restructure the second generation grate cooler built during both early and middle 90s of last century.The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the technological restructure feasibility of the Fuller grate cooler in No.5 kiln system of Shaanxi Qinling Cement Co. Ltd. according to its process and technological conditions, shortcoming and problems. By investigating and inspecting the working effect of the third generation aired beam grate cooler used in China, combined with the current working state and modification target on the Fuller grate cooler of No. 5 kiln, the main contents and technical program for restructuring the grate cooler were given up using the key technologies of the third generation aired beam grate cooler. Tianjin Cement Design Institute was entrusted to make the modification design of the cooler. Shanxi Qinling Cement Co. Ltd. organized and carried out the structure adjustment and property optimization of the Fuller grate cooler. After the Fuller grate cooler was restructured into a high effective push and aired beam grate cooler of TC type, the output per area and the heat-recycle efficiency of the cooler were enhanced efficiently. Meanwhile, the serve life of grate plates was also prolonged. The operation efficiency of the kiln system was greatly increased. The clinker output of the kiln system achieved 2200 tons per day.As the red river usually occurred in the grate cooler, the reason to form the red river and the factors to affect the clinker sinter were analyzed. It was proposed that fans were arranged separately at the high temperature part of the grate cooler to solve the red river. The cooling effect of the clinker was improved and the basis for the stable production of the preheating and precalcining kiln was set up.
