With the progress of science and technology and the improvement of manufacturing level, the carpet tufting machine technology is more and more advanced. And the foreign technology is already relatively mature, but in our country, the tufting technology have not formed with independent intellectual property rights, mainly by buying the foreign tufting equipments. Therefore, the tufting technology of localization is the current most important question to be resolved to domestic enterprises. This study on the tufting machine transmission mechanism of structural improvement program is proposed based on this background.This paper studies the transmission mechanism of tufting machine mechanical structure as the starting point, some structure improving on transmission mechanism are carried out, a three-dimensional modeling was drawn by Pro/E for improved mechanism and kinematics simulation processing was done with ADAMS, then the parameter optimization are did after simulation with ADAMS itself optimization module. The main contents of the paper include: 1) In the process of improving transmission mechanism'structure, the domestic and foreign research state of the tradition tufting machine' transmission mechanism tufting process and mechanism were analyzed. With the help of tufting process principle which uses non-harmonic mode, changed the tufting needle'executive mechanism with cam-link institutions.2) The drawing of three-dimensional modeling was done to the improved transmission mechanism. In the process of designing the cam-link institutions, the research focus on the follower (the tufting needle) law of motion characteristics, the design process of the cam in details.3) With virtual prototyping, some simulation analysis are carried on and parametric optimization on the improved tufting machine structure model with kinematics and dynamics analysis software ADAMS. In the process of simulation analysis, the displacement, velocity and acceleration analysis are carried on the follower of transmission mechanism which include tufting needle and the circle hook, the simulation curves are matched to the theoretical design. In the process of parametric optimization, the model of virtual cam linkage is created, size optimization on the key structure are did for tufting needle' transmission mechanism, the linkage optimized made the acceleration of tufting needle significantly reduced.After improving the tufting needle'executive mechanism and kinematics simulation analysis by ADAMS, the improved mechanism can satisfy the tufting process on time coordination. After the optimization on critical dimensions, the objective function tufting needle acceleration becomes very small which achieve the purpose of optimization. The inadequacy is which it didn't optimize the size for the whole structure, it has a great significance in this area of research work.
