The paper is based on "AUTOMATIC STRAIGHTENING MACHINE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT", a project from a CNC company and leading by the author. There are three major software modules in the overall system, which are 1) Work piece Error Auto-Testing System, 2) Work piece Error Type Decision Support System, and 3) process solution Expert System. The software system performs auto-testing, auto-design the process solution and auto-implementation, so that the testing on the software system is the key of the whole integration and verification procedures. This paper focuses on the software testing.In this paper, the author analyzes the system specification, technical requirements and system structure to well understand the theory, configuration and operation mode of the overall system. After that, all of the software test requirements are clarified. Based on the test requirements, the test plan and strategy are figured out accordingly. Test cases are well designed with Black-Box technologies. Take the real test environment condition into account, the software testing is implemented by using the test cases. Test faults are managed and controlled in the test case database. With fault description and source code location, the testing engineers guide the software redesign works and follow up the lift cycle of the test fault. Finally, test evaluation meeting is held to summarize the overall testing design and implement works, the meeting report is approved as an evidence for the product release.The implementation of the software testing follows the software engineering method, well design and apply the test cases with the characters of the system, the procedures and the results are completed and acceptable, so that the test faults are discovered before product release. As a result, the quantity of customer fault feedback and maintenance after release is greatly reduced comparing with the previous version.In China, the development on the special-purpose CNC machine, especially in terms of the integration of advances software system and traditional CNC system is just in beginning phase. The paper summarizes the experiences of the software testing solution design and implementation in an automatic straightening CNC machine, and makes a useful trial to strengthen the development competence and enrich the technical reserve of the company.
