Demonstrative Study Of Intergrating AIDS Voluntary Counseling Testing With Regular Work Of Family Planning

Objective: integrating Voluntary Counseling Testing (VCT) with regular family planning services (regular services are three checks including checking IUD, checking pregnancy and checking diseases every 2 months), which desensitize and de-stigmatize VCT so it promotes women of childbearing age and their families to participate in VCT. We wanted to explore new way and mode to prevent AIDS in high AIDS prevalence rate area of Henan province. Our specific objectives are: 1. to train local family planning service providers and evaluate the train; 2. to train male partners about condom and evaluating the train; 3. to implement and evaluate VCT; 4. to evaluate knowledge and attitude to AIDS.Method: conducting community trial study of epidemiological method. We intended to select Shangcai county of Henan province as our study field. And we intended to chose 2 high prevalence rate townships (Huangbu and Wulong). Then we intended to chose one high prevalence rate village respectively in the two townships. Last we assigned the two villages to intervention group A and intervention group B randomly. All women of childbearing age who took part in regular "three checks" were our study subjects. As to intervention group A we not only distributed condoms and conducted IEC (information, education, communication) but also carried out VCT. And during VCT, we carried out many follow-up. As to intervention group B, we only distributed condoms and conducted IEC. During the course of study, we applied qualitative research methods and quantitative research methods. Qualitative research methods include observation, individual interview and focus group discussion. Quantitative research methods were conducted through closed-questionnaires. Results:1.
