| Cortex Mori, the root bark of Morus alba L. is a Chinese traditional medicine mostly used as an antitussive, antiasthmatic and diuretic component in traditional Chinese prescriptions.In this thesis, the chemical constituents of the water extract of Cortex Mori were studied. Twenty-two compounds were isolated by polyamide columm, Sephadex LH-20 column, ODS column and HPLC. On the basis of the chemical evidence and spectral analysis, the structures of fifteen compounds were elucidated, including eight stilbene glycosides, three arylbenzofuran derivatives and four coumarins. Among them, the five new compounds were named as oxyresveratrol-4-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-3'-O- β -D-apiofuranosyl-(1→6)-O- β -D-glucopyranoside(6), oxyresveratrol-4-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-3' -O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→ 6)-β-D-glucopyranoside(7), oxyresveratrol-3' -O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-4-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 6)-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(8), moracin M-6-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(9), 5-hydroxy coumarin-7-O-β-D-apiofuranosyl-(1→ 6)-O- β -D-glucopyranoside(14), and ten known compounds were mulberroside A(1), cis-mulberroside A(2), oxyresveratrol-2-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(3), oxyresveratrol-3'-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(4), resveratrol-3,4'-di-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(5), moracin M-3'-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(10), moracin M-6,3'-di-β-D-glucopyranoside(11), scopoletin(12), 6-hydroxycoumarin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(13), 7-hydroxycoumarin-6-O-α-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→6)-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(15).
