Effect Evaluation Of Health Education With Health Life Newspaper Among Rural Doctors In Shanxi Province

Objective:To evaluate the effectiveness of training with Health Life newspaper among rural doctors,and explore a new model of continuing education for rural doctors.To provide scientific basis for Health Education and Health Promotion Program organized by Ministry of Health.Methods:This investigation was performed by systematic sampling.200 rural doctors were chosen from 20,043 rural doctors (up to January,2009) who subscribed to Health Life newspaper for free at the Ministry of Health's expense. Health-related knowledge on the Health Life newspaper was used as training material.Self-designed questionnaire was used to Understand the status of Health-related knowledge. The data was input and analyzed by Excel and Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS 17.0).Results:The average score and the pass rate of Health-related knowledge among rural doctors have improved obviously(50.02 to 60.48; 29.4% to 58.1%).The difference was statistically significant(P<0.005).Among the 25 issues, the correct answers of 23 issues (92%) improved partly after the training (The difference of 17 correct answers was statistically significant which 11 accounted 44%, P＜0.001 and 6 accounted 24%, P<0.05) in which their performance of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and signs of depression had increased significantly by 29.3% and 20.5%. Moreover,the performance on infectious disease and commom diseases about gynecology and traditional Chinese medicines increased by 18.3%,17.9% and 16.3%. Others increased from 0.3% to 15%.Conclusion:It is practical to train rural doctors in Shanxi province on health-related knowledge and skills using Health Life newspaper. We should conduct health education based on the geographical conditions and the profession characteristic.and place great emphasis on their knowledge and skills of prevention and treatment for endemic disease and chronic disease. Enhancing practicability and pertinence and progress of the contents, so as to improve their ability in preventing and curing diseases and raising the service ability and utilization rate of general practitioner. It's necessary that the lecturers and editors keep in touch with their readers. It is also suggested that to build up an evaluation index system to evaluate the effectiveness of health education for rural doctors in Shanxi province by Health Life newspaper.
