Verbs Repeat Research Of Cantonese Dialect In Guiping, Guangxi

Cantonese dialect maintains an important position among the seven main dialects of Chinese. Compare to common Chinese and some other dialects, it is obviously different in terms of pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar. Zan Bo Hui once pointed out that to Cantonese dialect researching is quite similar to the whole Chinese dialect researching. These two research processes both contain the stages of firstly pronunciation researching and then develop to the stage of focusing on vocabulary and grammar researching and finally gradually simultaneously focus on pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar.The author of this paper is a local people in Guiping, Guangxi. And most of the inhabitants in Guiping city are the descendants of Cantonese who immigrated into Guiping during the Ming dynasty and Qing dynasty. The majority of them speak Cantonese dialect, to be more specific, the Southern branch Cantonese dialect. Cantonese dialect is one of the most popular dialect in Guangxi, but the research about it is barely found in some books of Cantonese introduction. Further more, none of these books contain the research of Cantonese dialect of Guiping. This paper takes the verbs repeating of Guiping Cantonese dialect as the research target, and based on the linguistic survey, this paper systematically sums up the form, grammar sense and grammar function of verbs repeating of Guiping Cantonese dialect. Hopefully to enrich the research of Guangxi Cantonese dialect, as well as reflect the abundant language phenomenon and language rules. This paper is divided into five chapters.Chapter one: brief introductionIn this chapter, this paper mainly gives the verbs repeating research a review and analysis and points out that Cantonese dialect research is not yet a mature system like Chinese. The significance of subject selecting, the theory and research method which are applied in this paper, the definition of verbs repeating, explanation of language resource, all these are mentioned in this chapter.Chapter two: the form and grammar of verbs repeating in Guiping Cantonese dialectBased on the inscapes of verbs repeating of Guiping Cantonese dialect, this verbs repeating could be divide into three types which are, pure verbs repeating, single syllable verbs embedded repeating and two syllables verbs repeating. This paper also points out that the verbs repeat of Cantonese dialect mainly indicates a continuous action. And the analysis of the five forms and combinations of Cantonese dialect verbs repeat is also given in this paper.The five are"VV","VVzhu","VshaVsha","VVsha"and"VAVB", these five combinations of verbs repeat have the sense of a continuing action.Chapter three: the syntax function of the verbs repeat of Guiping Cantonese dialectIn this chapter, we observe how the verbs repeat of Cantonese dialect act as a subject, predicate, object, attribute, adverbial modifier and complement in a sentence. The conditions for verbs repeat phrases evolving into verbs repeat sentences are also analyzed in this chapter. At the same time, we also discuss how the verb repeat combines with quantity element, resulted complement and tendency verbs.Chapter four: to compare the verbs repeat among Guiping Cantonese dialect, Guangzhou Cantonese dialect and mandarinTo compare the verbs repeat of Guiping Cantonese dialect and Guangzhou Cantonese dialect in terms of pronunciation and repeat form, to analyze a typical repeat form"VVsha". Chapter five: epilogue and conclusionTo summarize the main points of this paper and mentioned whats missing, as well as what should be foucused on in the future.
