Chaling, a county under the administration of Zhuzhou, is located in the margin of southeast Hunan, on the south of Youxian county and the north of Yanling county, connecting with Jiangxi province on the east with the Mijiang River going around. Xiadong town on the south of Chenguan town in the center of Qialing county lies just in the intersection of Xiang and Gan dialect therefore, it shares the characteristics of the two dialects. This thesis gives a systematic analysis of its phonetics and then makes a comparative study between Changsha and Nanchang dialects, and Mantonese as well, finding that Xiadong dialect is a mixture of them.This thesis first gives a brief introduction of Xiadong town's location, history, population and its language;and introduces the research work that has already made on its dialects, its significance and ways including examples and examinees. It contains seven parts.Part One is a description of the phonetic system of Xiadong dialect, including initial consonants, vowels and tones, and their harmony.Part Two is an analysis of its phonetic feature including that of its initial consonants, vowels and tones.Part Three studies its vernacular and variant pronunciation including the initial consonants and vowels.Part Four is a record and composition of its homonyms.Part Five compares and contrasts between Xiadong and Nanchang and Changsha accents theirs initial consonants and vowels and tones.Part Six draws a conclusion of its phonetic features and its ownership.
