Autonomous learning plays a significant role in College English Teaching.There are various perspectives of autonomous learning.Based on the theory of Multiple Intelligence, the working principles of the brain,and the theory of affect,this thesis attempts to improve students' English autonomous learning ability by cultivating learners' positive affect and acquiring an efficient learning method based on brain working principles.The theory of Multiple Intelligences holds that individual's intelligence is presented in various ways and it is the result of the division and collaboration of the brain.Given proper training,encouragement and guidance,everyone will have all kinds of intelligences developed though each has his/her advantages and disadvantages of intelligence at present.The research on localization of language functions in the brain shows that the process of language generation and reception includes the separating procedures and the sensory procedures which are controlled by different regions of the brain so that different elements of one behaviour is performed by different regions of the brain.Each task involved different language behaviours is completed by a numerous neurons and their networks in different regions of the brain.The theory of the whole-brain learning advocates that language learning is a process of activating all relevant parts of the brain to achieve high efficiency of English learning.In the process of cognition and reaction,learners experience a process of evaluation. Positive affect can promote English learning while the negative ones can obstruct it. Affective factors have great influence on English autonomous learning.This thesis designs a strategy of learning English from the fundamental unit.It includes: the combination of the pronunciation and spelling,the integration of the meaning and the forms,contextualization,regular review and the flexible practice.And the English corner is one of the effective ways to put English into practice.The aim of the overall design is to stimulate the incorporation of different regions of the brain working together,develop multiple intelligences,and improve the efficiency of learning.Along with the positive affect, it is the sure way of cultivating autonomous learning ability to grasp an effective way of leaning.
