To keep up with the new developments of higher education in China, deepen teaching reform, improve teaching quality, and meet the needs of our society for qualified talents in the new era, College English Curriculum Requirements (Requirements hereafter) drawn up in 2007 to provide colleges and universities with the guidelines for English instruction to non-English major students and show the objective of College English is to develop students'ability to use English in an all-round way, especially in listening and speaking, so that in their future work and social interactions they will be able to exchange information effectively through both spoken and written channels, and at the same time they will be able to enhance their ability to study independently and improve their cultural quality so as to meet the needs of China's social development and international exchanges. Obviously, the main model of college English teaching has been transforming from the teacher-oriented traditional teaching model of teaching pure language knowledge and skill to the fashionable student-oriented fashionable model, and emphasizes on training students'ability to use English in an all-round way.Ever since the early1980s,learner autonomy has been a"buzzword"in foreign language teaching. The concept of Learner autonomy was put forward by Holec in 1981 in Autonomy and Foreign Language Learning, and since then a large body of research concerning LA has been carried out in western countries, focusing not only on the rationality of learner autonomy from pedagogical and philosophical perspectives, but also on the means of facilitating the development of learner autonomy. In recent years, the study of LA has also drawn increasing attention from teachers and researchers in China, but the relevant studies to date in China either stay on the pure theoretical framework,or belong to the definition of the ability of learner autonomy. So far, there are few studies aimed at investigating non-English majors'autonomous learning in English listening and speaking situation and to evaluate their autonomous learning competence. With an attempt to fill up such a research gap, this study aims at examining non-English majors'autonomous learning competence to identify students'non-English majors'autonomous learning problems, and to adopt possible strategies to improve non-English majors'autonomous learning competence in the current Chinese environment. And carry out effective teaching strategies and promotes the overall implement of effective teaching. The paper is divided into five parts:The first part is introduction mainly on background of autonomy learning, the significance of the study, as well as research objects and methods. The second part outlines the interactive theories about autonomy learning, such as the definition"non-English majors and English majors","listening and speaking non-English majors","autonomy learning", etc.The third part discusses the current autonomy learning problems in Jilin Medical College and analyzes their reasons which cause the problems. The fourth part studies problems about autonomy learning, and puts forward strategies about autonomy learning.
