By systematically analyzing the preface, rhymes and characters of Xungu Xieyin, this dissertation verifies the result of previous researches that the phonology of modern Changsha dialect, compared with peripheral cities, can be reflected in Xungu Xieyin. Besides, this dissertation which covers the contemporary linguistic materials of Changsha dialect illustrates the process of sound changes concerning the initials and finals. The dissertation can be summarized as follows.The first and second chapters are some brief introductions of Xungu Xieyin. The first chapter not only introduces styles, editions and research status of the book, but also reviews the development of Changsha dialect’s researches. The second chapter mainly focuses on the phonology and collocation of initials and finals of the book, and criteria in terms of using the materials of literature.The third chapter is about the features and changes of initials reflected in Xungu Xieyin. The dissertation attaches great importance on mergers and splits of phonemes. We primarily discuss Jianyin and Tuanyin, the relation between Zhi, Zhuang & Zhang group and between Fei & Xiao group. And we subsequently discuss the relation of Ni and Lai initial, Cong and Xie initial, Chuan and Chan initial. At last, we describe the changing process of initials like Ri, Jian-Ⅱ and Yi.The fourth chapter is about the features and changes of finals reflected in Xungu Xieyin. This dissertation concentrates on rhyme groups of Jia, Yu, Xian & Shan, Dang & Jiang, Tong. The discussion concerning Jia is that how did they split into second and third division. And consequently Jia-Ⅲ had both literary and colloquial reading. The contents concerning Yu contain different categorized pronunciations and final caused by Acute and Grave initials. The discussion concerning Xian & Shan is about categorized pronunciations and changing of nasalized syllabic ending. The discussion concerning Dang & Jiang is about changing process of rhymes and syllabic ending. The discussion concerning Tong is how to merge with Zhen She.The last chapter comes to a conclusion which summarizes the period and reason of phoneme changes of Changsha dialect, and the trend of sound changes.
