After the empirical turn on contemporary Philosophy of Technology, people began to focus on the relation between structure and function of technical artifacts. The discussion on technical artifacts is based on ontology which supports us to find the significance of “The Actuality of Technology” and “How is the Existence of Technology”. That raises technical artifacts, and the discussion on “difficult problem” of its duality through the unity of two criteria- UD, RC.The duality of technical artifacts can really not achieve unity? In this paper, we will do research on the duality of technical artifacts from the aspect of ontology. What’s the relation between structure and function exactly and how they are relative and how they achieve the unification on complete technical artifacts? The enlightenment on methods of reducing the gap of technical artifacts duality is obtained by researching Leder Functional Decomposition Method and Associate Professor Pan Enrong’s Generic Function Method. This is also one of the largest innovations of this research, different from Functional Decomposition Method which only provides the conditions on technical artifacts duality in usage scenarios and conventional design scenario while innovative design scene conditions are remain unsolved. Associate Professor Pan Enrong puts forward Generic Function Method with the third party strategy method and making use of space and time synchronization methods on the basis of engineering approach. On the foundation of the two predecessors’ research, the structure- function use is put forward considering using system theory and building a bridge between the system and elements, which also supplies a new approach to the solution of “difficult problem” in structure and function of technical artifacts.
