It is crystalized status of graphite and size of graphite flake that determines thetechnological properties, industrial value, processing methods and application ofgraphite. The beneficiation process characteristics of large flake graphite, fine flakegraphite and aphanitic graphite are different from each other. Study on beneficiationprocess characteristics of different graphite is to confirm the suitable process morequickly and predict concentrate indicators at the same time according to the propertiesof graphite ore. It has great significance on utilizing graphite resources morerationally and efficiently.Due to the both commonness and differences between fine flake graphite andaphanitic graphite, a detailed research of beneficiation process on fine flake graphiteore in Baotou of Inner Mongolia and aphanitic graphite ore in Wangqing of Jilin wasconducted with roughing and cleaning conditions, open circuit and locked cycle. Thesuitable dressing processes for two kinds of ore had been confirmed by the research toform targeted and effective graphite beneficiation technology routes on the basis offinding out the differences of beneficiation process characteristics between these twokinds of ore.A locked cycle process with one-time rough grinding, one-time roughing andone-time scavenging, five-time regrinding and six-time cleaning to the roughconcentrate on the refractory fine flake graphite ore with low content of fixedcarbon was confirmed by one research. The concentrate grade was upgraded from3.98%to88.43%, and the recovery was75.29%. The concentrate indexes was up tothe national carbon in LZ(-)38-88standard. An open-circuit with one-time roughgrinding, one-time roughing and one-time scavenging, four-time regrinding andsix-time cleaning to the rough concentrate on the aphanitic graphite ore wasconfirmed by the other research, and two kinds of concentrate were producted by thisprocess. The contents of fixed carbon of these two kinds of concentrate were86.09%and64.81%, and the recoveries were respectively55.63%and34.87%. The two kindsof concentrate indexes were up to the national carbon in LZ(-)45-86and LZ(-)75-60standard respectively. Analyses on difference of beneficiation process characteristics indicated that“stage grinding-stage flotation” circuit was more suitable for low quality, fine andrefractory graphite ore like fine flake graphite ore in Baotou and aphanitic graphiteore in Wangqing. The rough grinding fineness of fine flake graphite ore was fine. Thedosage of collector and frother was larger than general fine-scale graphite. Alkalinepulp with lime as regulator could not only promote flotation effect but also depressthe pyrite.“Stage grinding-stage flotation” could improve the concentrate grade, andthe middlings returning could improve the concentrate recovery. The rough grindingfineness of aphanitic graphite ore with mud structure couldn’t be too fine, and theregrinding process should be gradual in order to achieve monomer dissociationgradually. The dosage of collector and frother was larger than fine flake graphite ore.It could improve the concentrate recovery by increasing the dosage of agent inroughing process, and upgrade the concentrate grade by decreasing the dosage ofagent in cleaning process. The middlings could be processed individually byregrinding and scavenging. As a kind of crystal graphite, the natural floatability of fine flake graphite isbetter than aphanitic graphite, which leads to better processing characteristics inbeneficiation.
