AbstractGIS-T (Geographic Information System for Transportation) has played a very important role in the plan and the management of transportation and impressively demand by market. It not only can control the organization, storage and retrievial of space information like GIS (Geographic Information System) but also can built, run and manage the models to solve the problems like DSS (Decision Support System) about transportation. The author tries to take advantage of them. So the article researchs GIS-T from two aspects that one is GIS and another is DSS.After some new software technologies such as Object Oriented, OpenGL and FBGIS (Feature Based GIS) come true, we realize that we can improve the ability of GIS-T with the help of those new software technologies.First, how to manage data map much more quickly and flexibly and how to simulate transportation upon GIS using OpenGL have been discussed. Second, the disadvantage of the data structure of traditional GIS in solving transportation problems is pointed out. Feature based GIS must be built. Third, the data base of GIS-T has been researched. The database of traditional GIS is relational database that cannot manage mutilmedia information, history data and so on. The focus of the research into new GIS-T database is the management of temporal and history data and information that comes from many kinds of resource and services for all kinds of users. At last the article research how to build model base including building model, runing model and management of model. The author has programed a transportation information manege system using Delphi one of the 4thGL and the ActiveX MapObjects2.-0 provided by ESRI to bring some ideas to reality.
